CONNIE EDMONDS Peacefully, April 17, 2013 at Victoria General Hospital, our mother, grandmother and friend ended a long and productive life of striving to make her corner of the world a better place. Through politics or her work as a union president with IAM at Air Canada, where she helped found not one but two union locals to represent office workers, she believed in acting rather than sitting still and complaining. Born in Kenora, Ont., in 1921, she lost her father in a railway accident when she was a toddler. She grew up during the depression and helped support her widowed mother until her mother's death. Connie was an excellent student but her education was briefer than it should have been. She was a loyal and fierce friend to many who needed one. She hated injustice of any kind. As a single mother herself, she always put her family first, moving across the country twice. Later in life, she enjoyed travel and spending time with her friends, in particular her best friend Pat Munro, and doted on her grandchildren, first Elizabeth and then Nicholas. She was generous with her love, her time and her money. She leaves behind her sister Priscilla (Glynn) Lyons of St. Albert, Alta., and her family in Winnipeg, son Scott (Margaret), grandchildren Elizabeth and Nicholas. We miss her now and forever. Thanks to the kind and thoughtful staff at Victoria General for their care and compassion during these last four months of her life. And thanks to the attentive provincial home-care staff who enabled her to fulfill her objective of remaining in her own home as long as possible.
