AMADO MENDOZA COMIA July 23, 1941 - April 17, 2013 It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our much loved husband, dad, lolo, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend Amado Comia on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, in his home surrounded by his family. Amado will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his best friend and wife of 42 years, Teresa; children Edric (Leona), Karen (Michael Dela Cruz), Charles; grandchildren Taylor, Gabrielle, Julien, Elizabeth, Izabella, Alizandra; and Emme. He is survived by his brother Dr. Eddie Comia (Nini San Juan); sister Polly (Cmdr. Angel Aliwalas); in-laws Nenette Calzado Jun Andres, Mercy (Willie Nacu), Estrella (Richard Barreo), Divina (Frank Comido), Julieta (Eric Cruz), Noel Andres as well as extended family and friends in the United States, Canada and the Philippines. He is predeceased by parents Padro and Juana Comia; brother Julian and sister-in-law Lily; parents-in-law Atty. Federico and Esperanza Andres; sister-in-law Corazon Andres and brother-in-law Dr. Melchor Calzado. Amado's life began on a farm in Rosario, Balangas, Philippines. He was the third child in a family of three brothers and two sisters. He obtained his B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the Philippines in1962. As a scholar of the French Government, he went to study and specialized in leather technology at the Ecole Française de Tannerie in Lyon, France. On his return to the Philippines, he met his future wife, Teresa, a registered B.S. Chemical Engineering graduate, at the tannery where he worked. He immigrated to Canada, going to Québec City in October, 1971, followed by Teresa seven months after giving birth to Edric. Karen and Charles were later born in Quebec. The family moved to Winnipeg in 1980 and he worked at Dominion Tanners for 22 years until his retirement as Technical Director. Upon early retirement, they continued to travel across Canada and the U.S. visiting with family and friends. He wanted so much to retire in the Philippines and was able to persuade Tess to have a house built on the farm in Batangas, and so for the last ten years they vacationed yearly to the Philippines. Despite many heath challenges over the years, his determination, courage and optimism never allowed him to stop enjoying life to the fullest. He loved to garden, cook and was an avid bowler. He was a man of few words; yet his actions spoke volumes. His devotion to his family and friends were immeasurable. He cherished the time spent with his family especially with his six grandchildren. Lamay will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 23rd and 24th, 2013, from 6:00 p.m. to midnight at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, 748 Keewatin Street. Interment and reception to follow at Glen Eden Funeral Home. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, please make donations in Amado's name to CancerCare Manitoba or to the Building A New Church Fund (BANC) for St. Peter's Church. Many thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at CancerCare, McCharles Unit; Palliative Care for their excellent and compassionate care of Amado. Special thanks to Dr. James Johnston and Dr. Ade Olujohungbe, sincere and heartfelt thanks go to all his tannery, bowling and his coffee buddies. He valued your friendships very much. We would also like to thank our friends and family who have been supportive and loving during this difficult time. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111

  • Kuya Amado was a wonderful man in words and in deeds. A man of few words both to his family, friends, and acquaintances but with hard convictions. The very first day that my own family set foot on Canadian soil in 2004, Kuya Amado, Ate Tess, their children and close relatives helped and guided us in so many ways to make it easy for us to settle in Winnipeg. The guidance and help we have received is invaluable and will be remembered for the rest of our lives. The Amado/Tess Comia clan is our family in Canada. Kuya Amado will surely Rest In Peace. Thanks be to GOD. - Posted by: Ted and Veronica Villaluz (Extended Family) on: Apr 21, 2013
