TADAO JAMES TAKESHITA Peacefully on Friday, April 12, 2013 at Parkview Place, our beloved Dad, Jichan, and Great-Grandpa passed away. Dad was predeceased by his parents, his three brothers and his beloved wife, Shigeko Marjorie. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughters, Jane (Dave), and Carolyn; son Ron (Laura); grandchildren Kristin (Chris), Brent (Sheri), Robert, Jesse, Kyle; great- grandchildren, Branden, Kaylee, Taylor, Kobe, Mika, Kiya; sister-in-law Nancy Takeshita and many nieces, nephews, and their families. Dad was born on Boxing Day, December 26, 1919 in Port Alberni, BC and married "the love of his life" Marjorie on March 3, 1946 in Coaldale, AB. Mom and Dad then moved to Winnipeg where they soon began their family. Dad worked as a marker and senior welder at Dominion Bridge Co. for 40 years, during which he had not missed a single day, and from where he retired in 1986. None of us have ever seen him sick until Mom was moved into the nursing home in 2003, when he was diagnosed with diabetes. He attended the Manitoba Buddhist Church with Mom. His favourite pastimes were caring for his house plants, vegetable garden, reading encyclopedias, the daily newspaper from front to back, doing Sudoku puzzles, playing solitaire, and the occasional trip to the casino, followed by lunch at KFC. He loved being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren at all the family get-togethers. Our family would like to extend our sincere thanks to all the home care workers and nurses who attended to him at his home, his next door neighbours who always looked out for him, and, most recently, to the staff at Parkview Place who have cared for him in his last few days. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111

Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • Carol, Jane, Ron & families. We are so very sorry for your loss. Your Dad was a kind friend & neighbor to both of us over the past 25 years and had a special place in our hearts. Always a smile and a kind word of advice he would give. May he rest in peace with Mom and you all find comfort in the wonderful soul he was. - Posted by: Nancy & Rick (Neighbors) on: Apr 23, 2013

  • We were so sorry to hear of you father's passing. It seems so very long ago that I peeked over the fence to see you three in the back yard waving back at me. I guess it has been 55 years since that first happened. Also, 55 years when my father and yours became friends. I know my father will miss your father very much. Our hearts go out to you at this time, as yours did to us not that long ago. We send you lots of love at this time of loss. Jane, Carol & Ron...lots of hugs sent your way. Hope to see you this summer. Love Virginia & Jim - Posted by: Virginia & Jim Huber (Friends) on: Apr 22, 2013
