JEAN RANKIN Mom passed away peacefully with loved ones by her side at Deer Lodge Centre on April 19, 2013. She would have celebrated her 97th birthday on May 23. She was predeceased by her husband Bob, son Bruce, daughter Betty, sister Olive, brother and sister-in-law Bill and Ann Cassidy, and son in law Ed Miller. She will be sadly missed by her beloved daughter Maureen Miller, granddaughters Cheryl-Ann Laycock (Lanny), Heather Miller of Vancouver, BC, Erin Bretonne (Henry), grandson Rob Marcyniuk of Kamloops, BC, great-granddaughter Brandy Hurd (Keith), great-grandson Jonah Marcyniuk of Kamloops, BC and great-great-grandchildren Graeme, Corrina, Ian Hurd and by her brother Alan (Eveline) Cassidy, as well as her nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her many friends at Lions Place where she has resided for the past 14 years. Mom was happy in her home at Lions Place and took an active part in the various activities. She loved to play cards and did so almost every night. She served two terms on the Resident's Council and volunteered in other areas until her health began to decline. At the age of 85 Mom showed her creativity through her art lessons and her various styles of painting. She learned computer skills when she was 89 years old and used these skills to make greeting cards for family and friends. She said if she couldn't travel physically she would see the wonders of the world on the internet in the comfort of her own home. My Mom was a very special lady! She loved and was well loved in return. We will miss our beloved Grandma Jean and were fortunate that she was with us for so many years. A celebration of Mom's life will be held at Thomson Funeral Home on Friday, April 26, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face. And rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand. Special thanks to the staff at Lions Place, Mercedes and all the other home care workers who took such good care of Mom. We would like to thank Dr. A. Jowett, and his nurse Agnes of Charleswood Medical Clinic who cared for her for many years. Our sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff at 3 East Deer Lodge Centre for their excellent care and compassion. You are very special people. Should friends so desire, donations may be made in Jean's name to Deer Lodge Centre Foundation, 3 East Fund, 2109 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3J 0L3 or by visiting the website at www.deerlodgefoundation.ca or or a charity of your choice. I knew Aunty Jean when she lived on Stranmillis Ave. I would go & spend weekends with Aunty Jean & Uncle Bob when I was at St Charles Academy (I was 7/8 years old/1960) The Cassidy's lived near my family farm in the Interlake. She & her mother were my Grannie Browning's friends Aunty Jean was a real lady & I adored her. (Thank you Aunty Jean for making a lonely little girl part of your family) She will be missed - Posted by: Bernice Smith ( Browning) (Family Friend) on: Apr 24, 2013
