CHRISTOPHER WINSTON ROSS December 6, 1968 April 22, 2013 It is with utmost sadness and disbelief that we announce the unexpected passing of Christopher Winston Ross following a heart attack on April 22, 2013. Born December 6, 1968, Chris was raised in Brandon, MB where he attended elementary school and graduated from Vincent Massey High School. He went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Commerce Honours degree from the University of Manitoba, and then articled with Meyers, Norris, Penny to earn a Chartered Accountant designation. He moved from public accounting to the business sector where he worked for Progress Rail and, at the time of his passing, was employed by Sandvik (formerly Cubex) where he acted as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer Manufacturing. Throughout his journey in life, Chris's academic achievements included: CA (Chartered Accountant), CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor), CPA (Certified Public Accountant, USA designation) and CBV (Chartered Business Valuator). Chris lived large and enjoyed spending his time with family, friends, food, and fun. His tastes were eclectic. He was an avid reader and greatly enjoyed many genres of music. He loved entertaining and frequently hosted UFC gatherings at his home. He was a whiz at the computer and often bailed out frustrated, technically-challenged family members. He managed to maintain relationships with far-flung friends and family members through social media. He was straightforward, detail-oriented, and always called a spade a spade, but at the same time, had a heart of gold and was extremely generous with family and friends. He was a fantastic uncle, and took a lot of teasing about being a single man with a baby seat in his vehicle. His love affair with motorcycles started at the age of two, and he wore out many toes of his little braking shoes'. Chris had done exhaustive research on dome homes, and was looking forward to beginning construction of his own dream dome home on his rural property this summer. Cherishing Chris's memory are his parents: Robert (Bob) and Lois Ross, brother Vincent (Maribel) Ross, precious nephew Rex Ross, grandfather Lyle Watson, grandmother Marjorie Oliver, and numerous extended family members. Chris will also be missed by his large network of close friends and business associates. Welcoming Chris into his next chapter are his grandfather Winston Ross, grandmother Beulah Watson and Grandfather George Oliver. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Christopher's life will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2013, 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in memory of Chris may be made to a charity of choice or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation at 6 Donald Street, Suite 200, Winnipeg, R3L OK6. The family would like to thank everybody for their love and support through this difficult time. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111

Condolences & Memories (33 entries)

  • Shocked to learn of his passing... Chris was always great to work with but he was an even better friend. I always enjoyed our personal discussions - "meet for a quick drink after work" could easily turn into a 4 hour deep-dive discussion. Chris showed me the plans for his dome house - he was so excited to get started. What a shame. - Posted by: Michael Alward (Coworker / Friend) on: Dec 13, 2015

  • I was deeply saddened to hear about Chris's passing. My deepest condolences to the family. I had many dealings with Chris over the years, more so recently with the new addition at Cubex. We talked many times about his new dome house, and we were looking forward to wiring it for him. He was a true professional and a real gentleman. A couple of years ago, I suffered a heart attack myself and was fortunate to have a quad bypass. Once I was back at work and at meetings in his office, he never neglected to ask me how my health was and how I was doing. My staff who had dealings with Chris always praised what a good guy he was. Chris your will be truly missed by your electricians. - Posted by: Larry Liebrecht (Electrical Contractor for Cubex) on: May 01, 2013

  • Chris is someone I loved spending time with, guaranteed to make me laugh so hard I would cry. We spent hours together laughing, sharing, and enjoying each others company. Time has passed since we last talked but it doesn't really matter. Here I am tonight, unbelieving, remembering, and deeply saddened. • Dear Bob, Lois & Vincent, You may not remember me, I grew up across the street from you on 26th street in Brandon (and Mrs. Ross, you actually taugt me in kindergarten at Meadows). And Chris and I often played together and hung out during that time. I was very saddened to learn of Chris's passing. I recently connedted with Chris, and quite by surprise as our professional careers crossed paths. It was nice to make that connection. I just wanted you to know that I appreciated your son and your brother. I always found him to be fun and interesting, and a genuinely good and decent guy. To learn of his academic achievements and career successes was certainly no surprise to me. The bottom line was that your son was a genuinely good man that I appreciated and admired, and I will always remember him that way. Please accept my condolences on Chris's passing. I will keep you all in thoughts and prayers. - Posted by: Terry Josephson (Friend) on: Apr 27, 2013

  • I think I speak for everyone when I say that all involved in working towards the realization of Chris' new home were really looking forward to the challenge of building it this summer - and that we are truly stunned and saddended that this work has to stop. Chris was one of those rare 'dream clients' and I will miss our provocative discussions. He was Yin and Yang. Decisive yet open-minded. Cautious yet daring. He knew what he wanted but he also knew that the journey to get to what he wanted might take him to unexpected places... and he seemed to really like that. Fare thee well, good Sir. - Posted by: Desmond Burke, MAA (Architect for his new home) on: Apr 26, 2013

Like him it promised to be quirky, cool, and fun. He is truly missed and the world a lesser place for his absence. - Posted by: Bill Galloway (Friend) on: Apr 25, 2013
