OVILA LABERGE Peacefully on April 24, 2013 Ovila (Ovi) Laberge passed away at Action Marguerite (Tache Centre), at 66 years of age, in the presence of his youngest brother Adrien. Ovi was born on December 4, 1946 in Ste-Rose-du-Lac, MB. He was predeceased by his parents Maurice Laberge and Nellie Pubben, and his sister Henrietta Nagel. Ovi's seven brothers and six sisters will miss his gentle yet boisterous jocular presence, Gilbert (Yvonne), Elise (Rev. Doug Giles), Julia (Gerry) Berube, Louis (Linda), Trudy (Nico) Marzella, Leo (Sylvia), Denis, Fernie (Marguerite), Ed, Linda, Monica (Ike) Hofer, Adrien, and Jacquie (Rocky Buckmaster), as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. We recall a handsome, wild, young man who loved life, people, music, cigarettes and his Pinto. Though the devastating car accident he suffered at the age of 21 set him on another path of life, Ovi faced the hardships with a fighting spirit. His generous nature and cheerful heart shone forth as he welcomed new people, new experiences. He did not hesitate to express appreciation and thankfulness. Throughout his life, Ovi sought out his God. The family extends its appreciation to the staff of Action Marguerite who have provided Ovi with excellent care and support over the past 11 years. A "Celebration of Life" for Ovi will be held on Monday, April 29 at 7:30 p.m. at Place Des Meurons, 120-400 Des Meurons St., St. Boniface. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation Inc., 1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.

Condolences & Memories (11 entries)

  • I met Ovi when I worked at Salisbury House on Tache in 1981. He was so funny and always looked out for us girls. If we worked the late shift he would stay there to make sure we weren’t alone. He was always so pleasant and genuine. He used to laugh so hard when we mimicked his walk, we would say hey Ovi! Who’s this ? He would laugh and say Ovila Joseph Laberge! it was all in good fun:). I was thinking about him a few years ago, wish we had the chance to say goodbye. You are in the arms of our Lord now. Thank you for all the great memories and laughs. Will cherish those. Rest In Peace Ovila - Posted by: Yvonne St. Laurent (Old friend) on: Oct 15, 2018
