PHYLLIS RUTH SMITH 1923 - 2013 The world lost a kind, generous, beautiful, and artistic woman on April 24, 2013. Phyllis Smith passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, at the age of 90. She was predeceased by her parents Wesley and Marjory Smith. She will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved her. Special mention to her companion of many years Craig Ramsey; devoted and long-time family friends Sheila and Daryl Reid and Family; Kevin Reid and Cathy Hewson. Phyllis was a career woman working most of her life for her father's business. She enjoyed her Mac computer and attended local user clubs over the years. Her artistic talents emerged as a teenager. She became an accomplished painter and was an active member of the Norman Art Group participating in local shows and sales. She has left us a legacy as many of her paintings brighten countless homes and offices around Winnipeg and beyond. Phyllis had a strong Christian faith and studied bible scripture extensively. She was a living example of her faith through her charitable contributions to organizations that supported people and animals in need. At Phyllis' request no public service will be held. Donations may be made in her memory to D'Arcy's Arc (730B Century St., Winnipeg, R3H 0M1), Union Gospel Mission (Box 1073, Winnipeg, R3C 2X4) or the Children's Hospital Foundation (CE501-840 Sherbrook St. Winnipeg, R3A 1S1). We would like to thank the nurses and support staff at Tuxedo Villa for the exceptional caring and support for Phyllis and to all of us in the past six weeks. Thank you also to Rev. Jeff Cook, Transcona Memorial United Church, for his compassionate spiritual support. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. • Phyllis, gone but not forgotten my friend. Miss you RIP - Posted by: Audrey Robertson (Friend) on: May 09, 2019

  • I have such warm memories of Phyllis. I started in 1975 at Wesmar Automatic Beverages. I was a very quiet young man eventually driving the coffee supply van to offices around Winnipeg. Phyllis was so wonderful and forgiving of all my mistakes. Her strong Christian values were a great encouragement to me and throughout the years I have found myself reflecting on my memories of her. What a positive impact she had on my own faith and life choices since that time. Thank you Phyllis and may you rest in eternal peace. - Posted by: Gordon Milley (Former Wesmar emplyee) on: Oct 28, 2017

My thoughts go out to Craig who was a steadfast companion to Phyllis and cared for her like no other, my condolences to you Craig. Rest in Peace Phyllis, we know where you are. xx - Posted by: Audrey Robertson (Friend) on: Dec 06, 2013

  • Phyllis and my mother, Eleanor Russell, were very good friends. They travelled together to British Israel conventions and enjoyed each other's company enormously. When I cleared out my mother's apartment, there was a huge file of letters written (on her computer) to her from Phyllis over the years. I met Phyllis on a couple of occasions when she came to Ontario to visit Mom. My sympathies to her friends and family. - Posted by: Wendy Russell Johnson (friend) on: Jun 14, 2013

  • I just learned of Phyllis's death today. I remember when she came down to visit us in 1993. She drove down from Vancouver with her cousins. We had a great visit. She was a very nice lady and I am sure she will be missed by her friends - Posted by: Laurie Smith- Kidd (my dad Fred Smith and phyllis where first cousin) on: Jun 11, 2013

  • So sorry to hear of Phyllis's passing. I worked for her Mother and Father and herself in the late 60's. Was a great time in my life, made some lifelong friends while working for Wesmar. Phyllis and her parents were great people. Last saw Phyllis on the Sunday before she passed, my Aunt is in the room across the hall from Phyllis. - Posted by: Tom Hamilton (Employee) on: May 04, 2013

  • I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Phyllis. I have been thinking of her and never got around to call until today. I was answered by a dear friend of Phyllis who was at the home taking care of matters. I have seen Phyllis about 3 or 4 times. We did chat on the phone and emailed each other. I wish I had stories to tell. Living so far apart I have only memories of phone conversations. I have a picture of her father and my mother and Phyllis when she was a wee one. My mother told me she liked the name Phyllis and I am named after her. My mother and Phyllis were 1st cousins. I will miss our phone conversations. Love you - Posted by: Phyllis Hebert (Ist cousin once removed) on: Apr 28, 2013
