CECILE PRAIRIE (née GREGOIRE) February 18, 1927- May 2, 2013 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother. She is survived by her loving husband Edouard and her six children Marcel, Colette, Jean-Marc, Gérald, Jacques, and Aline, their respective families including her 14 grandchildren as well as her beloved brother, two sisters, and many other nieces, nephews and close friends. This woman was considered "mom" by many extended family and friends. La p'tite Cécile was born in Lorette, MB. In her 20s, she attended nursing school in Edmonton, AB and on her return met her beloved husband, Edouard Prairie. They were married in October 1957 and settled into a life together raising their family with love, laughter and mutual support. Cécile was devoted to her family, her Catholic faith, and to helping others. She loved being a nurse on the maternity ward at the St. Boniface Hospital and took great pride in her profession. She gave her all to her patients and is remembered with fondness by many. She lived her life with dignity and with an unselfish devotion to others. She had a great love for children, flowers and travel. She will always be remembered for her message of Peace, Love and Happiness. A special thanks goes out to her caregiving team at Actionmarguerite (Taché Centre) for their kindness and compassion. A funeral mass will be held at the Saint-Boniface Cathedral at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 9, 190 ave de la Cathedrale. Viewing and eulogy will precede the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10 - 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. Desjardins 233-4949 1-888-233-4949 www.desjardinsfuneralchapel.ca

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Sincere condolences to Edouard and the family. Cécile always had a special place in my heart since the birth of my first son. As for many others, she was my nurse on the maternity ward and what a gift that was. She was soft spoken, compassionate and great at guiding a first time mom. I will forever hold her in my heart and I'm sure God has reserved her a very special place in Heaven. - Posted by: Jeannine Porteous (Maternity patient at St.Boniface Hospital in 1969.) on: May 08, 2013

  • My mother Lois, brother Clint, sister Rosemarie and I were fortunate to have known Cecile (ma-mere to our niece Emily Prairie)for over 20 years. She was always a lovely person -- kind, considerate and happy to help with anything she could. We were saddened to learn of her passing, and our thoughts and prayers are with her family. - Posted by: Liza Bowman (Family relation ) on: May 08, 2013

  • Mrs. Prairie was my nurse in November, 1966 when I gave birth to our son. She was a wonderful support on the labour ward and we will always remember her kindness and positive attitude. She was direct in her instructions, resulting in my very short labour. Our sympathies to her family. I will remember her always. - Posted by: Joan Stewart (Maternity patient) on: May 07, 2013
