Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARTHUR WILLIAM MAHER It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Arthur William Maher on May 6, 2013 at the age of 87, with his family by his side, at the St. Boniface Hospital. He will be missed by his children Gord (Madeleine), Tom (Robin), Bruce (Fran) and Rod (Ann), his brother Fred and sister Lilian, his 11 grandchildren, his many nieces and nephews, his special friend Clemence, and all his many other friends. He was predeceased by his wife Thelma, his father George, his mother Annie, his sisters Muriel, Claire and Laura, and his brothers George and Harold. Art was born January 26, 1926 in Winnipeg. He served in the R.C.A.F. in the Second World War. He then became a Chartered Accountant and worked for many years in private practice, with the federal government and as a volunteer. One of his favourite activities was spending time with his grandchildren. Art and Thelma frequently had young grandchildren at their home for weekend sleepovers. They travelled to Alberta and British Columbia to visit grandchildren there, and Art spent many hours in hockey arenas across Manitoba to cheer his grandchildren on. Special thanks to the staff at the St. Boniface Intensive Care Unit for their compassionate care. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200-6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. I first met Art three years ago when I was doing research on the Hinkelman family. He told me such wonderful stories about our family that I had never heard before. He was a wealth of information and a joy to speak with. Over the past few years we had kept in contact and I will truly miss our phone conversations. - Posted by: Yolande Krueger (First Cousin Twice Removed) on: Jun 04, 2013

On behalf of my two sisters and our family, I wish to offer our condolences to the Maher family. Art (as Clémence called him) was a kind and considerate gentleman that gave purpose to my step-mom Clémence after my father passed away. Art lovingly called her "Clem". I could tell that there was a "spark" between the two of them from the first time I saw them together... They were good for each other... I personally will miss conversing with Clémence's good friend "Art". See you in Heaven Art. - Posted by: Joseph Marc Bruyere (Clémence Maurice's step-son) on: May 09, 2013
