HELEN LOUISE PARKER (nee BALDERSTON) November 8, 1913 April 2, 2013 Mom passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 2 at West Park Manor, seven months shy of her 100th birthday. She was predeceased by husband James (1993), daughter Carol (2012) and sisters Lillian Yeo, Jean Abey and Bertha Windsor. Mom will be sadly missed by daughter Linda (Don), sons Alan (Deanna) and Bob (Charlene), son-in-law Frank, grandchildren Tracey, Kerri (Steve), Brent (Rina), Blair (Kari), Bryan (Teryl), Garrett (Ashley), Jonathan, Kim (Tony), Glenn (Linda), Jeff (Candice), great-grandchildren Jarrod, Garrett, Alexis, Joshua, Ashton, Georgia, Delainey, Tamara and Jarrod as well as many nieces and nephews and long time friend, Myrtle Bargery. Mom was born in Arthur Municipality in South West Manitoba. She contracted polio as a child but it did little to slow her down. Mom went to work in Winnipeg at Rupertsland College where she made many lifelong friends, including one of Dad's cousins, Doris McRae. It was Doris who introduced Mom to Dad. Mom and Dad married on July 8, 1936 at Melita, Manitoba. They initially lived in downtown Winnipeg but moved to Queen Street in St. James where they raised their family. Mom and Dad loved to travel and they made many trips throughout Canada and the United States. Mom was very artistic and loved to sketch figures in pencil. She took up painting in her later years and many of her paintings grace family homes. Mom never took formal music lessons but could play music by ear and if the opportunity presented itself, she would sit down at a piano or organ and play for hours. She was a long time member of the St. James United Church choir. A celebration of Mom's life will be held at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of one's choice. The family would like to acknowledge the staff of West Park Manor for the excellent care they provided Mom in her final years.
