Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVERA JEAN MICHEL (nee GUNNESS) February 27, 1918 May 4, 2013 It is with profound sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Vera Jean Michel at Oakview Place on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the age of 95. Cherishing her memory are her loving husband of 62 years Peter, daughters Louise, Janice (Tom), Brenda (Brian), grandchildren Kristin and Stephen; sisters, Doris, Mona, Arlene (Joe) and sister-in-law Del; and many nieces and nephews. Her parents Ethel and Alexander Gunness, brothers Clifford and Maurice, sister-in-law Isobel, and brothers-in-law Frank Restall and Daniel Hamilton predeceased her. Jean was born in Starbuck, Manitoba and her family later moved to Rivers, Manitoba. She moved to Winnipeg and worked at the Eaton's Mail Order. She married Peter Andrew Michel on April 14, 1951 and they started raising a family together. They enjoyed spending summers at their cottage at Matlock. As a young family they took many trips to the West Coast to visit with Jean and Bill Wilson and Mona and Dan Hamilton. Jean and Peter enjoyed trips together to Europe and Hawaii. Jean also took several trips with her sister Doris. Jean had a wonderful sense of humour. She enjoyed cooking, loved baking and made great crabapple jelly. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. The family wishes to express our gratitude to the entire staff at Oakview Place for the care she received. At Jean's request cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean's memory could be made to the DASCH Foundation to go towards supporting Louise and the DASCH Foundation, who took over Louise's care after 35 years of Mom and Dad caring for her, or any charity of your choice.
