OLIVE BELL Olive Bell passed away on May 7, 2013, at Seven Oaks General Hospital. Born Olive Irene Louisa Smith in 1916, she lived her life in Winnipeg from beginning to end. She was predeceased by her loving husband Les Bell, and also by her son Lawrence. She will be sadly missed by daughter Wendy Jensen (Andrew); daughter-in-law Miriam Bell; grandchildren Christopher (Victoria) and Kathryn Bell; sister Audrey Stewart; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and by her good friend Peggy Matewush. Olive grew up in Weston, attended DMCI and completed her grade XII at Wesley College. She then found work as a seamstress and actually worked on the upholstery of the planes being built during the war. In 1947, she decided to buy some land at Winnipeg Beach and built a cottage with the money she had saved. This led to her meeting her future husband and their marriage in 1951. Les and Olive enjoyed 55 years together, both at Mom's cottage and at their home in West Kildonan. Mom loved glorious music, voice and opera, the roses in her garden and her cottage. To the end she was an avid fan of Blue Jays baseball, curling and figure skating. But, above all, the single most important thing was her family, near and far. You could always count on whatever support she could give. A quiet person with great strength of character. Many thanks to Dr. Clayton Dyck and April for many years of care. Also the staff at Amber Meadows for their ongoing support. Memorial service to take place on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Olive's name to a charity of your choice.
