JANIE WINTHER (nee IRWIN) March 13, 1922 May 12, 2013 Peacefully on Mother's Day, May 12, 2013 Janie Winther, beloved wife of Kai, passed away. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Karen (Norm) Friesen, Judith (Jim) Schellenberg, Faith (Dave) Haack, Bob (Wendy) Winther; eight grandchildren David, Kenton, Kristine, Chris, Richard, Heather and Jordan, Evan, Sara; eight great-grandchildren Landon and Rachel, Jessica, Mason, Alexis, Maya, Kai, Aidan, Liam; great-great-granddaughter Maela; one sister Pearl Carroll of Port Coquitlam, BC; her niece and nephew Murray and Joan and families; two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law Harry Winther, Ernie and Susan Winther; two nephews, four nieces and their families. Janie was predeceased by her parents Fred and Lily Irwin, three sons Brian in 1993 and two sons in infancy Dennis Kai and Alan. Mom was the hub of the family, the centre of all our gatherings. She was born in 1922 on a farm in Dufresne where she lived for 91 years. In 1945 she married Kai a fine Danish gent from Ostenfeld. They farmed for 68 years and raised five children. Mom was very active in the community and church. Mom's chosen career was as a homemaker. She will always be remembered as a wonderful seamstress and for her fine needlework and crafts. She was a great cook and an amazing baker. She always grew a large vegetable garden and her basement was full of homemade preserves. She was also a great help to Dad on the farm. Her family was very special to her. Though Mom's health failed in recent years, Mom and Dad were blessed with many enjoyable years together. A celebration of life will take place on Friday, May 24, 2013, 7:00 p.m. (which would have been their 68th Wedding Anniversary) at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Drive, Steinbach. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at Ostenfeld Lutheran Church, PR 302, Ostenfeld, MB. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Janie may be made to Bethesda Foundation (Bethesda Cancer Care), 316 Henry St., Steinbach, MB R5G 0P9.
