PETER ROBERT CHERNICHAN
Born: Dec 02, 1932
Date of Passing: May 19, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETER ROBERT CHERNICHAN Peter Robert Chernichan passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba with the love of life, Alice by his side on May 19, 2013, at the age of 80. He was predeceased by his parents John and Dora, his brother Paul and his sister Anne. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Alice. They were married in Winnipeg on July 5, 1952. He is lovingly remembered by his son Lloyd, his daughters Delores (Dave) and Rhonda (Elliot), his grandchildren Ashley-Dawn (Jason), Shawn (Kim) and Dana, his great-granddaughter Brooklyn, his sister Olga (Jack) and sister-in-law Joyce, his nephews Bob (Rolande), Howard (Debbie), Richard, Jeffrey and Jackie (Debbie), nieces Jeanette and Julie (Don), and many other extended family and friends. We would also like to acknowledge that Peter was soon to be a great-grandfather of two more. Peter was born at his family's farmhouse in Dallas, Manitoba on December 2, 1932. From a young age, he loved the outdoors. His first job was cutting wood in the bush in and around Dallas. From there, he went on to become a bicycle telegrapher. He then started in the sales industry, where he spent the rest of his working life. He worked for many different companies over the span of his career, namely: National Laboratories, Delmar Enterprises, Imperial Soaps and Miracle Sanitation. He worked until his health would no longer allow him to. Peter was a caring, fun loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. While he could definitely be a stubborn man, his love for his family and his work would always prevail. He was very witty and his sense of humour was unmatched. Peter and Alice did everything together, were very busy and had many interests. They loved to enjoy the outdoors at every opportunity, especially camping, fishing and barbequing. They would often get together with friends to play cards or go dancing, enjoying the company of their friends. You could regularly find Peter in his garage puttering around with his countless tools and toys that he had purchased from his beloved Canadian Tire. Spending time with family was of utmost importance to him, especially during the holidays and on Ukrainian Christmas. At these gatherings, he could be found telling jokes and making the group come to tears with laughter. He also had a passion for professional wrestling - if wrestling was on television, he would be watching it. Prayers will be at Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Avenue West on Wednesday, May 22 at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main Street in West St. Paul, Manitoba on Thursday, May 23 at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Jeff Cook will be officiating the prayers and the funeral service. Honorary pallbearers will be: Shawn Dealey, Jason Leibert, Jeffrey Chernichan, Jackie Meadows, Aaron Chernichan and Vince Chernichan. Interment and reception to follow. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital, mainly the 4th floor of the Cardiac Unit and Unit 6E for the excellent care provided over the last few months. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in his honour. Glen Eden Funeral Home, 204-338-7111, www.gleneden-mb.ca in care of arrangements.

Dear Alice and Family, Bob and I send our condolences on Peter's passing. He was my salesman for many years in the food service business. I vividly remember him going out of his way to find an appropriate product to clean a very dirty floor in one of my new job locations. We both were down on hands and knees scrubbing. He was one great man. He will be greatly missed. Carol and Bob Wright Hillside Beach, Manitoba - Posted by: Dear Alice (Friend) on: May 28, 2013

I always felt very loved by him and know that I was ! Whenever I would run into him at Canadian Tire or Walmart he was always interested in my life and when I would be stopping by the house. The most joy I saw in his eyes when Ashley-Dawn was growing up. He got such a kick out of various stages she went through. He would have huge smiles just watching her. I am so so glad that we both had him in our lives for many many years. Will hold many cherised memories close to our hearts. - Posted by: Cindy-Lou Zallack (Forever "daughter in law") on: May 21, 2013
