• I met Larry in the 80's and he quickly became my favorite teacher and mentor. He helped me with everything in my life. Later in life I ran into him again and it was like we didn't miss a day of seeing each other. He and I stayed good friends and always kept in touch when I was moving all over the place. He was the most positive person in my life. Even my kids loved him to pieces. So many things I could say but mostly... I will always miss ya bud.. • I'm deeply saddened for this heart-breaking loss. He helped me to reinvigorate my art and drawing skills in Art class, back at Maples. He was a funny, energetic, positive and charismatic teacher. • Larry introduced both of us to the love of art. We both attended art classes with him, which turned out to be an evening of fun with Larry at the helm. • I was an Art student of Mr.Bartley's from Maples Collegiate more than 10 years ago. I will always remember him as the goofy highschool art teacher. But more importantly, I will remember him for how passionate he was about art and his students. Mr. Bartley went over and beyond his duties as a teacher, with words of encouragement to follow our dreams and even being the driving force in helping us obtain them. He was one of the reasons why I still continue being an artist. • The Barnett extended family sends their deepest condolences to our Manitoba relatives. Larry's battle with cancer brings back in spades the battle waged and lost by our mother to cancer. Candles have been lit in his memory and prayers said for all of you. I only met Larry at my brother George's graduation in New Haven, Connecticut. His smile and sense of humour was infectious. • I met Larry in the late 80s when we played summer hockey together. I've read many comments about him being full of zest, highly energetic, and possessing a great big smile! Boy, that describes him perfectly, which is why he was known on our team as Larry 'at the gate'!! He always had funny stories in the dressing room and was a big part of our winning team. • Mr. Bartley was my art teacher for four years at Maples Collegiate and I will never forget the impact he had on my high school life. He inspired me to an extent no other teacher has ever been able to reach and I am deeply sorry I never got to see him one last time. • We got to know Larry through his brother Keith when he was living in Fisher Branch. Larry was such a down to earth person who truly cared about others. When a special memorial service was held at Hodgson to honour the good work his brother did as a Natural Resource Officer, Larry showed true compassion and spoke very well on behalf of the family. His gifts of teachings to art world will be missed. I know he is probably enjoying a family moment with Keith and Del. • Our family moved to Winnipeg in 1966 and were fortunate to have the Bartleys as next-door neighbours on Kirkfield Street. I have fond memories of countless football games played with the Bartley boys on the front lawn of Lincoln School. Larry loved to be quarterback! I will remember Larry's enthusiasm and great stories, his zest for life, and his love of his family. Larry had a gift for making people feel welcome. • My daughters (Renee & Danielle)... We talked about our intro to Larry.. As my husband said Bess got loose and Larry was chasing her down. A few days later Larry came to visit. Our girls and their cousins were in the kiddy pool. Larry opened the gate and Bess came screening in to get in the pool. Kids scattered in all directions!!! Never a dull moment with Larry... • Larry was a very good friend of my late husband Gerald and mine. He introduced me to my fiancé Kin. I`ll never forget Larry`s code red, code red phone calls! • Larry and I met in our terrible twenties. We were roomates. We played hockey, golf and shared lots of fun times together. Larry was larger than life and would brighten up any place he was with his big easy smile and infectious laugh. He was a people person and would give anyone the shirt off his back. We stayed close friends even when I left Winnipeg, something Larry could not understand. He loved Winnipeg and would never leave. • Larry was one of our favorite customers who became much more than a customer but a beloved friend to us all. I would hear someone yell out "Janeen...Larry is here" and everyone would run out to laugh and joke around with him. He was excited when I took him golfing to Niakwa Golf Course as he had never golfed there before. Anja told him he missed his calling, as he had such a great radio voice so he would phone up and say "92 City FM calling!" We will miss him dearly. • Thank you for everything you have done for me the past 2 years in high school, you are so passionate for art and you are my inspiration, you are one of the reasons i still do art. • I met Larry 30 yrs ago when his lab Bess broke loose and we had to corral her. Larry the 30 yrs was one hell of a ride that I cherish now more than ever. • Our love and prayers are with Lucille and the Bartley family at this sad time. Our very fond memories of our times with Larry are so healing. Right from the times when Larry and his family came to visit us on the farm when we were all kids, to the great hunting trips, to the beautiful weekend when Larry and Lucille tied the knot, to the golf games (Larry was so kind and patient with us!!), to the white water rafting and to just having Larry as a real friend. • I met Larry in 2004 and immediately recommended that he meet my single aunty. It was here that he met the love of his life. • Larry was one of the most genuine men that I have had the pleasure to meet. He had an open and accepting nature and an easy presence. • Larry and I worked together at Maples Collegiate for 7 years. He was an inspiration to his students. I remember the summer of 2003 he was working on a project within the core area painting murals to beautify the community, he invited my daughter Lindsay to join him, as she was an aspiring artist. • I've known Larry all of my life. He was a teacher from about 1963 when he taught me how to tie my shoes. Maybe I was one of his first pupils. Larry had a gift for not only teaching but also for making us laugh. Anyone that ever had the privilege of knowing him could not escape his humour. He also cared deeply for his family and friends. During the flood in May 2011, Larry had just completed chemotherapy. He came out to Delta on Lake Manitoba to sandbag. Even in his weakened state he found strength to help his friend. That was Larry Bartley, true friend, teacher and most of all loving husband.
