MABEL BENN (nee FORBES) March 16, 1926 May 21, 2013 With broken hearts, we announce the passing of Mabel Benn, aged 87, on May 21, 2013. Predeceased by her husband Ab in 2009, Mab will forever be loved and remembered by her son, Bryon, daughter Sue (Reg), granddaughter Lindsay and grandson Adam. Born and raised in Brandon, Mom loved to play baseball and instilled her passion for the game in her kids. Mom and Dad enjoyed travelling, skating at the Duck Pond and bowling with their friends. Mom began her life long career with Safeway in 1942 in Brandon and retired from the Sturgeon and Ness store in the early 1990s. Caring friends have always been such a special part of Mom's life and she was blessed with so very many. Much love and thanks to all of you for the fun and laughter in the good times, and the shoulders to cry on in the not so good ones. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mom's memory, to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Monday, May 27 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg. Gramma's at peace now, free from all pain. Forever with Grandpa. Together again. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • My Mom and Mabel became fast friends when they both moved into Sturgeon Creek retirement residence after its opening in 2007. My Mom's name was also Mabel and that was always joked about between them. They hadn't been friends for long when my Mom passed away in August of 2007 but Mabel was a guiding light for me and she attended her funeral. I am thankful that my Mom had such a good friend, even for such a short period of time. I am so sorry for your loss and know that the 2 Mabels are up in heaven having their tea and good conversation. - Posted by: Rose Crate (Daughter of a Friend) on: Jun 02, 2013

  • Grandma... I miss you already. As the family gathers today to lay you to rest I am at peace knowing that you and Grandpa are together again. Tonight, right now, in Thailand, I am looking up to the stars, the same stars we share around the world, and remembering the great times we shared together - I can hear your laughter in my heart. Rest peacefully Grandma. With all my love... - your girl, Lindsay - Posted by: Lindsay (Granddaughter) on: May 27, 2013

  • So sorry to hear of your loss. Mabel was such a wonderful and devoted person. She will surely be missed! - Posted by: Lori (co-worker at Safeway) on: May 26, 2013

  • Rest in peace Mabel, so sorry to read this in today's paper, special thoughts for your family and all persons that had the pleasure of meeting you. - Posted by: Carol Davis (One of Mabel ' s work buddies at Safeway ) on: May 25, 2013
