LILLIAN (LIL) TARR (nee POWSHIK) Peacefully following a brief illness, Lil passed away on May 29, 2013 at the Victoria General Hospital at the age of 87 years. Lil is survived by her daughter Barb Jensen (Larry), sister Paulette Needham (Howard), sister-in-law Margaret Tarr and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband William (Bill), daughter Margaret, brothers Gordon and Jack and sisters, Minnie, Anne, Jean and Joan. Lil was born and raised in Brandon, Manitoba and enjoyed socializing and spending time with her family and friends. In her earlier years, she especially enjoyed dancing to the Big Bands and began her career as a baker for McGavin's Bakery in Brandon where she was known as the "donut queen". In 1953, Lil met and married the love of her life, Bill and the two soon moved to Winnipeg where they raised their two daughters Margaret and Barbara. Lil spent her time at home caring for her family and when the girls began school, she returned to her love of baking and was employed at the Belgian Pastry Shop on Corydon Avenue until she retired in the late 1980s. Lil enjoyed gardening and crocheting. She also took pleasure in cooking perogies, holubchi and danties for her many nieces and nephews. Later in life she cherished the time spent lunching out with her daughter and testing lady luck at the casino. As her health declined, she loved watching game shows and her longtime favourite soap operas, The Young and The Restless and General Hospital, with her faithful loving companion Pacer, always at her side. Lil will be lovingly remembered as a mom, sister, auntie and friend by those who loved her. Service will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway with viewing to take place one half hour prior to service with Pastor Shane Brothers officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at Brookside Cemetery with Urn Bearers Darren Needham and Christine Haip. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Winnipeg Human Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3T 0R3 or a charity of your choice.
