JOAN MCLEOD March 6, 1923 - May 31, 2013 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joan McLeod (nee Lamb), peacefully after a brief illness on Friday, May 31, 2013 at the Seven Oaks Hospital, at the age of 90 years. Joan is survived by her daughters Carol Clark and Linda Ransom (Alan); "Nanny" to seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren: Christina (Shaun) - Kori, Kyle - Kolten and Ryan; Greg; Darryl (Julia) - Sydney and Liam; Rick (Dana) - Cole, Zoey and Shayne; Kim (Ken) - Ashley- Rain and Penelope, Joshua, Andrew, Justin; Ann (Marc) - Oliver and Ruth; Neil (Cindy) - Cayden and Emma; brother Jack (Joyce) - Jason and Julie; sister Mary - John, Christine, Paul; nieces Susan, Dorothy; nephews Melvin, Robin, Jim and their families; as well as special, lifelong friend Winnie Graveson (England); special friend Dorothea Kukat; companion Cy Booker; numerous great-nieces; nephews; other extended relatives as well as many friends here and abroad. She was predeceased by husbands Wyatt Clark and Russell McLeod; parents Norman and Annie Lamb; siblings Tom, Bette, and Frances; and her beloved dog Mitzie. On March 6, 1923, Joan was born in Morecambe, Lancashire, England. She joined Bette as the second child to be born to Norman and Annie Lamb, followed shortly by siblings Tom, Mary, Jack and Frances. Joan attended school until age 14 at which time she entered the workforce. During the Second World War, she served in the British Air Force where she met Wyatt Clark, a Canadian Air Force man. Joan and Wyatt married and had two beautiful daughters, Carol and Linda. The Clark family moved from England to Winnipeg in 1951. In 1970, Joan married Russell McLeod. She worked at Zellers from 1953 to 1972 where she met her dear friend Dorothea. After retiring from Zellers, Joan worked in the cafeteria in Silver Heights High School until she and Russ moved to Oakbank. Joan loved to travel and continued to enjoy her yearly trips to visit her sister Mary and her family in Vancouver. She cherished her friendship with her childhood friend Winnie who she kept in faithful contact with despite the distance. A Celebration of Joan's Life will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Metropolitan Kiwanis Courts, 2300 Ness Ave., Winnipeg with the Salvation Army officiating. Thank you to the Kiwanis Court staff where Joan resided for the past eight years and a special thank you to the nurses and doctors on the 4th floor Unit 5 at Seven Oaks Hospital for their exceptional, compassionate care. If friends and family so desire, donations can be made in Joan's name to a charity of your choice.
