Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHORST SCHMIDTKE September 9, 1930 May 31, 2013 On the morning of May 31, 2013, Horst passed away peacefully. He was 82 years old. Horst was born in Kamionka, Poland and immigrated to Canada in 1950. He initially settled with his family in Morden, Manitoba and moved to Winnipeg where he met Tusnelda, his wife of 58 years. A cabinet maker by trade he served the woodworking industry as a craftsman and a successful businessman as owner of Dormond Industries Ltd. Horst's passion was the cottage. Weekends and holidays were always spent with family and friends. If he wasn't building, he was fishing off the dock, watering the flowers or thinking about additional projects. Horst was a kind, giving and highly respected man in the community. He supported numerous community organizations and the church. Horst was predeceased by his father Gustav, mother Berta, and bothers Roland, Ewald and Otto. He will be sadly missed by his wife Tusnelda, sons Rudy (Barbara), Richard (Jennifer) and Rob (Sheri), grandchildren Christina, April, Derek, Jessica, Riley, Cali, brother Alex, sister Erika, and many cousins and friends. The Schmidtke family wishes to thank the team of doctors and nurses at the St. Boniface Hospital for their outstanding care. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, R3L 0K6, are encouraged. Our sincere sympathy to all the Schmidtke family. Nelda, Rudy, Richard and Rob, and all their families. Mom and Dad (Pat & Werner) are deeply saddened at Horst's passing as am I. He was a great friend to Mom and Dad, always willing to help out or offer advice. Mom and Dad always enjoyed New Years at the Schmidtke's or visits to Shoal Lake. But I have a hard time refering to him as Horst. Onkel Horst he will always remain. Rest in peace. With all our thoughts. Horst Schmidtke was an honourable friend and companion. All who knew him loved him, for he was a kind, decent, generous and compassionate Mensch who walked uprightly with his fellows, family and with God. His life was an example to all.
