STELLA J. SMITH February 1, 1917 - May 28, 2013 Suddenly but peacefully, our mother died as she had lived, on her own terms, at Grace Hospital on May 28 at the age of 96. Left to cherish her memory are her children and their families: Donna Fogg (Gord), Patricia Colbourne (Bill), Gail Martin (Paul), Peter Smith (Jennifer), and Roy Smith; grandchildren: Brett Fogg (Deirdre), Kirsten Fogg (Julian Walsh), Natasha Fogg, Lesia Fogg (Marcel Senecal), Melaney McFadden (Paul), Shannon Rudy, Chantal Laramee (Scott Bishop), Christopher Laramee; great-grandchildren: Daniel Rudy, Madison and Breanna McFadden, Illya, Enoria and Dorian Stasica Fogg, Elsa and Aria Walsh; niece Lenore Butler (Howard), nephew David Pike(Wanda), great-niece Kimberly Butler, great-nephews Sean Butler, Justin Pike, and numerous other nieces and nephews. She was Godmother to Lenore Butler and Brett Fogg. Mom was predeceased by our dad Peter (1978), sister Helen (1982), brother Ted (1989), grandson Russ Fogg (1987) and son-in-law Andre Laramee (1989). Born to Polish immigrants, Mom lived in the same house in the north end all her life. She loved her garden, a good game of greed, was a voracious reader, a sports enthusiast, and a supporter of the arts, including Roy's dance competitions. Her travels took her across Canada from Victoria, B.C. to Cape Breton Island, and north to Churchill. Although she journeyed to Edinburgh and Paris, she left her heart in the former Yugoslavia. Mom was the last surviving member of her peer group but she never considered her age, always preferring to interact with the younger generation. When asked what the greatest thing she had seen in her 96 years, she immediately replied: "It was the first time I saw an airplane flying". Mom will be forever loved and greatly missed. A celebration of Stella's life will be officiated by Deacon Paul Martin at the Green Acres Funeral Home, (Hwy 1 and Navin Rd) on Monday, June 3, 2013 at 10:00 a.m., viewing at 9:30 a.m. Burial at Green Acres Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Care Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB or use a computer search engine for "Assiniboine Park Conservancy, Make a Donation" GREEN ACRES Funeral Home and Cemetery (204) 222-3241 Condolences may be sent to www.greenacresfuneralhome.com
