Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT MCCORMICK MAYO July 30, 1922 May 25, 2013 Suddenly and with much sadness, Robert McCormick Mayo passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at the Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Dad will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughter Candice (Melvin) Holmes and son-in-law, Ernie Schuetzmann along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Dad was predeceased by his loving wife of 68 years Winifred, July 5, 2011 and his daughter; Hope (his tuffy) June 24, 2012. Bob is the last of the 13 siblings from Selkirk, Manitoba where he was born and raised. Bob started working at a very young age as a deck hand on the SS Kenora and worked the fishing lines on the Bradbury till he could start his life career of driving. It started with Ted's Taxi in Selkirk, on to River Motor Coach, Safety Freight Lines and then started his own transportation company in 1952; called East West Transport where he logged well over one million miles. Dad then drove for Grey Goose Lines and then retired from Beaver Bus Lines. Dad loved to travel, fish summer or winter, snowmobile and do his crossword puzzles. But he was most happy when he was living at the house in Lee Meadows on the Lee River. He loved to take walks with his dog, "Cindy Girl", or he'd just sit on the deck and watch our beautiful sunsets. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to all the staff at Calvary Place Nursing Home for the care and respect they gave to Dad over these years. As per Dad's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral. A celebration of Dad's life will take place at a later date. Dad was a man of not many words, but when he smiled at you everything seemed to get better! Dad, we will hold you close in our hearts forever, we love you! Dear Candy I met your Dad just a few times but always found him to be very quiet and considerate. He was the perfect opposite to your Mom whom we all know liked to talk! I know they loved each other very much and both loved you dearly. They will be together again now and will both look after Hope. Thinking of you. Before you were born, Candy, I stayed with your mom when your dad was on the road. I recall so many visits when your parents came to visit ours..I thought your dad looked like a movie star in those days..his lovely smile, kindness and gentle ways. I was so fortunate to see your parents a while before your mum died. Many HUGS and sincere sympathy to you.
