HUGUETTE RUTH SUSSER
Date of Passing: Jun 01, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHUGUETTE RUTH SUSSER On June 1, 2013, we lost our lovely, feisty, free spirited and much loved mother, grandmère, sister and friend, Huguette Ruth Susser, just days before her 78th birthday. One of eleven children, Huguette was born in Rivière-du-Loup, Québec into a traditional rural farming family. Seeking a different life, she enlisted in the Canadian Air Force, being posted to Gimli, Manitoba. While there, Huguette met and married the love of her life, Bill Susser, a dentist serving in the military. Together with their two sons, they enjoyed many adventures during their travels throughout Canada and overseas with the military. In 1969 the family made their last stop in Winnipeg, MB. Huguette was always a self starter and fiercely independent. Anything that needed fixing, she would figure it out herself, using her own combination of tape, elastic bands, bobby pins and actual tools. An accomplished cook, she was unafraid of trying a new recipe or technique. After becoming a widow, Huguette did not think twice about driving herself across the continent to the Florida Keys to continue wintering in her and Bill's favourite spot, Kawama Yacht Club in Key Largo, Florida. Huguette had many deep friendships with people from all walks of life. Age, background or place in life had no bearing on being her friend. No one loved a good joke like Huguette. Sometimes her humour could make a grown man blush, but it was always in good fun and never at the expense of others. Huguette will be remembered with love by her sons Marc and Michael, his wife Brenley and their children Shanel, Brookley and Brogan. She will be missed by her many friends and extended family. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Huguette's life at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on Thursday, June 6 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to the charity of your choice, or just tell someone a good joke.

Huguette..... A long time friend, neighbor, sister I never had, With whom I shared laughter and tears but always had good times over the 40 years that I knew her. She was kind, loyal, smart, funny and an awesome cook. Always there when you needed something whether A hug, laugh or words of wisdom gained from her many life experiences. If you were her friend, consider yourself blessed! I consider her a ray of sunshine and feel lucky and blessed she was in my life and that of my family. Huguette,--I love you and will miss you terribly! - Posted by: Kathy Mac Donald (Close Friend) on: Jun 05, 2013

To the Susser family IN MEMORIAM Marie Claire Huguette Murielle Viel Susser 17 June 1935 - 1 June 2013 Huguette Viel was born on 17 June 1935 in Riviere-du-Loup. She was the third daughter of Almina Michaud and Joseph-Arthur Viel and the seventh child of a family of eleven children. She grew up in Riviere-du-Loup and after completing her studies, she joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. After a few years, she met « Bill », a Major in the Royal Canadian Dental Corps. They got married and formed a family. Huguette accompanied Bill on postings overseas : Marville, France and in Canada : Summerside, Greenwood, Gimli to name a few places. On retirement, they settled in Winnipeg. The sudden death of Huguette saddened all members of our family. Her death was a shock for all of us because she was our youngest sister. We did not expect that she would be the first of our sisters to pass away. Fortunately, she passed away suddenly and she did not suffer during a long agony. The long distances kept us apart for so many years and we had a few contacts with Huguette. When she visited us, we were very happy to see her. Her visits were rare occasions for a family reunion and celebration. She gave us news about Bill, Micheal and Marc. She was very proud of her sons and grand children. She enjoyed talking about all members of her family. She liked to share her life experiences with us. She was a loving mother and a caring grandmother. She was very caring also for our aging mother during her visits to Riviere-du-Loup. Huguette was a dynamic person, a loving wife with a natural « joie de vivre ». She despised injustices and became very irritated when she witnessed acts of intimidation or discrimination. We will always remember her smile and her contagious laughter. We will always keep lasting memories of our sister Huguette. We share your sorrow and we deeply regret that we are not able be present at your side during these days of mourning. On behalf of the Viel family, please accept our heartfelt condolences. Sincerely Serge Viel - Posted by: Serge Viel (Brother) on: Jun 03, 2013
