IVY MILLICENT HENRY (nee BENNETT) January 19, 1931 - May 30, 2013 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ivy Henry. Left to cherish her memory are daughter Joy (Vernon) Mckay, grandchildren Natasha, Justin, Braeden and Taylor Mckay, and Jordan Henry, special cousin Dr. Rayna Wright-Germain (who was like a sister to her) and her son Patrick. She will also be missed by numerous relatives in Jamaica, England, Canada and the US. She was predeceased by her mother Agnes Poyser in 1975, infant daughter Verona in 1966, son Paul in 1999, and very dear Aunt and second mother Clarice Green in 1999. Ivy was born in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. Ivy immigrated to England in August 1954, where she worked as a seamstress. It was there that she met her husband and her children were born. She immigrated to Canada, arriving in Winnipeg in December of 1968. She continued to work as a seamstress until 1978, at which time she started work as a home care attendant until her retirement. Ivy was a deeply religious woman, with a strong faith in God. She cherished the fellowship she had with her church brothers and sisters and would attend church conventions when her health allowed. When her health prevented her from attending church on a regular basis, she found solace in tuning in to her church services on TV. She had a quirky sense of humor, which led her to watch English comedies such as Are You Being Served and Keeping up Appearances. And just to confuse her family, she would throw in an episode of Dog the Bounty Hunter. We would like to thank all her friends and neighbours who helped in her time of need. Your kindness did not go unnoticed. Mom was deeply touched by the visits, phone calls and meals. Special thanks Dr. Houston and Barb at CancerCare Manitoba, along with the nurses and other staff at the clinic who did their best to make her weekly visits comfortable. We would also like to thank her home care attendants and her palliative nurse for their kindness and patience. And finally, even though her stay there was short, we would like to thank the staff of Riverview 3E for making her last days comfortable. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at New Anointing Christian Fellowship, 1425 Manitoba Avenue. Viewing will be one hour prior to service at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I met ivy at the YMCA. We used to have a lot of laughs in the pool and that led to our friendship. As I got to know her better I realized she had many medical issues that she never spoke about. She was always so positive and had a ready smile for everyone. She was a beautiful person, very kind and considerate. Her family was her pride and joy. Her strong faith was her strength and helped her accept the medical hardships she had to deal with. I feel blessed to have gotten to know her. I will miss her. - Posted by: Pauline haalboom (Friend) on: Jun 06, 2013

  • Reading the paper and seeing the passing of Ivy overwhelmed me, i am full of regrets for not making a better effort to stay in touch with her. She was a loving and outstanding woman and to my daughter her grandma Ivy has always been in her heart and thoughts. All the beautiful dresses she made for Braydee will never be forgotten and more cherished. My condolences go to all her family.
