Date of Passing: Jun 01, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD BRIAN ISBISTER January 28, 1949 - June 1, 2013 On Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Victoria General Hospital, surrounded by family, Donald Brian Isbister peacefully passed away after a brief and courageous battle with Cancer. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Patricia; his son Chad and wife Jill, their children Peyton, Emery, and Lyndon; his daughter Xanthe and husband Koi Neng Liew, their son Sabin; siblings Irene Bradshaw, Gail Slack and husband Al, Leonard Isbister and wife Sharon, along with many beloved nieces and nephews. Don was predeceased by his parents, David and Lillian Isbister, brothers Leslie and Gary, and sister Anita. Born and raised in Winnipeg, he grew up in St. James, later moving to St. Vital where he and his wife raised their family. He enjoyed a successful career in management and sales, but his biggest joy was his family and considered "Grandpa" his finest title. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and spending time at the cabin with family, having many exciting adventures finding new spots to swim, hike and fish. Try as he might, he could never catch more fish than the grandkids. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 6 at St. Andrews Anglican Church at 2700 Portage Ave. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Ave. Pallbearers will be Kevin McElrea, Ernie Bachewich, Michael Isbister, Gerry Gibbings, Glen Johnston, and Alan Poitras. The Family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses for all of their dedicated care with a special thanks to Dr. Stephen Wong (Health Sciences Centre) and all the staff at Victoria General Hospital and Buhler Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations in Don's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or to CancerCare Manitoba. You will be sadly missed but "Never" forgotten Uncle Don. I will forever cherish the many fond memories of our times together and all the laughter shared with friends and family. You helped guide me through "many stages" in my life and for that, I will forever be grateful. I will miss that special bond that we shared. I will also miss that contagious laugh of yours! We all will! It warms my soul just thinking of it. And, just so you know, every time I hear the "Loons call" at the lake, I will think of you. Rest in peace Uncle Don. Love you, Susan - Posted by: Susan McElrea (Niece) on: Jun 04, 2013
