ANDREW GIDZAK
Born: Dec 06, 1920
Date of Passing: Jun 03, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANDREW GIDZAK December 6, 1920 - June 3, 2013 Andrew passed peacefully away at the grand age of 92. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Irene, his three brothers and four sisters. Andrew is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sophia; three children, William (Christine), Oksana (Melvin) and Christopher (Kathleen); his eight grandchildren and respective spouses; and six great-grandchildren (number seven coming in September). Born in Ukraine, Andrew lived a life that the movies could only imagine. Forced to leave his family in his teens, he toiled as a forced labourer during the war. Eventually escaping to Austria, he worked there for eight years. Migrated to Canada, and started a life here. While others used to talk about the old country, Andrew put the past behind him and embraced Canada and the great life it gave him. His family here was his pride and joy. He once said, that it is okay to have friends. "Friends come and go ... True friends will accept you for who you are ... You do not need fancy homes, clothing or expensive furniture ... As long as you can provide good company, good food and drink, true friends will not worry about sitting on the floor or sitting on cardboard boxes when they visit. But ... Family is important ... Family will always be there for you ..." He always was always there for us. Service will be held at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Avenue, with interment at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main Street on Friday, June 7, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Those wishing to make donations instead of sending flowers, please donate to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
