ALAN WILSON (SCOTTY) MCBRIDE It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Alan Wilson "Scotty" McBride on Sunday, June 2, 2013 in his 81st year at Trinity Village, in Kitchener, ON. Predeceased by his loving wife Joan. Loving father to Sandy (Suzie), Scott, Jordy (Nadene), Jeff (Geraldine), Robyn Slomba (Raymond) and Derrick. Sadly missed by his brothers Glen (Helen), Barry (Susan) and brother-in-law Walter Christie. Fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Al was born on May 7, 1932 and was a true "north-end" boy growing up with his two brothers on Atlantic Avenue in Winnipeg. He attended St. John's Tec High School before getting his first job working for the Manitoba Telephone System. Hungry for more than a government job, he moved into sales - cutting his teeth with Xerox where he worked for many years. With his sales skills sharpened, he went on to work in the consumer electronics industry holding down many sales/management positions and moving across Canada to follow opportunity. In the early 1970s he returned to Winnipeg and founded McBride Agency, representing dozens of major brands as a manufacturers agent and distributor, until his retirement in 1997. Al was a familiar face to many because for much of his life he was a model, appearing in hundreds of department store catalogs and flyers and later doing TV commercials and even some runway! He had a great smile, an infectious laugh, and he always seemed to be in a great mood. He was a solid football player in his younger years, and was a player on the Winnipeg Rams 1954 Championship team. This team will be inducted into the Manitoba Football Hall of Fame later this year, and Al will surely be smiling down on those proceedings. Al was an active bowler, golfer, and an avid Blue Bomber and Jets fan. Funeral Service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave, on Thursday, June 13 at 2:00 p.m. Donations may be made to the Parkinson's Society of SW Ontario, 117-4500 Blakie Road, London, Ontario N6L 1G5. Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • We first met Al in April of 1968 when Don joined Xerox, at Al's urging we transferred to Saskatoon in late 69. When we returned to Wpg in 72 we had the good fortune to connect with Al & Joan. This started decades of friendship, good times & so many evenings of laughter & enjoyable dining. It was sad to lose Joan & now Al, we miss the both of you, we know you are together. Knowing you has given us & our children fond memories, especially when you visited us in Lethbridge in 2009. Miss you Al, your friends Don & Maureen Stevenson of Lethbridge AB. - Posted by: Don & Maureen Stevenson (Friends) on: Jun 13, 2013

  • We lived next door to Al and Joan for 10 years, and have many fond memories of good times with them and our Winnipeg "gang". They were excellent neighbors and good friends. Many happy occasions were spent at their home or ours. We had lots of fun sharing garage sales, as well as stepping out "on the town" now and then. We were saddened to hear of Al's passing. We will miss him, but never forget him. Ben and Ellen Lowery Victoria BC - Posted by: Ben and Ellen Lowery (Friends) on: Jun 11, 2013

  • I had the pleasure of working with Mr. McBride on many K-tel commercials and product packaging photo shoots during the mid 1990's through the early 2000's. Mr. McBride was always K-tel's top choice when it came to needing a "mature" man for one of the company's fitness product commercials or product shoots. He was a true professional, but most important of all, he was a very nice person. My sincere condolences to your family. • Our deepest condolences go out to all your families. I remember seeing Mr Alan McBride at Glen's residence in my younger days. A very nice man. Our prayers and thoughts are with you. - Posted by: Margaret Suzuki and family (Neighbour to Glen and Helen McBride) on: Jun 08, 2013
