WALTER PROCEVIAT June 24, 1926 - June 12, 2013 Peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer, our Lord and Saviour took Walter Proceviat to his eternal home to be reunited with his wife Katherine, on June 12, 2013 at the Pinawa Hospital, at 86 years of age. Walter leaves to mourn his passing his children: Margaret (Dennis), Kathleen (George), Garry (Joan), and Brian (Bonny); grandchildren: Kevin (Trina), Jerrod, Craig (Kelly), Jennifer (Kris), Steven (Krista), Wesley (Lauren) and Breanne (Derek), and great-granddaughters: Katelyn and Syenna. Also mourning his passing is one brother Maurice (Evelyn), sister Olga, and sisters-in-law: Jennie, Elsie and Helen. He leaves many nieces, nephews, numerous friends and acquaintances. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Mukrina, a daughter Barbara in infancy, wife Katherine, and siblings: Mary, Daniel, Kathleen, John, Annie, Michael, Maggie, Nick, Pearl, Nettie, Jessie, and Lena. Dad was a gentle, kind-hearted person, loving his family, his farm and his many, many friends. Farming was his first love, working on the homestead, followed later by establishing his farm near Elma, MB. Dad always made friends wherever he ventured, whether to a family gathering, an auction sale, at the coffee shop, or even just meeting someone on the street. In addition to working the farm, Dad was a well known bus driver in the community (42 years), and also working for the Highways Department. We would like to thank all our wonderful family, friends, the Pinawa Hospital staff, and everyone who was able to visit Dad in the hospital; we appreciate all your compassionate care and continuing support. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 15 at Holy Cross Ukrainian Catholic Church in Elma. Interment to follow in Parish Cemetery. Prayers will be sung at 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 14 at Sobering Funeral Chapel in Beausejour. Pallbearers are Walter's grandsons: Kevin, Jerrod, Craig, Steven, Wesley and Kris. Condolences & Memories (12 entries)

  • Walter & Kate were the nicest people with big hearts & their generosity unlike any others. As young families we had many visits & meals with them at their home or our little cabin by the river. There were always treats for the kids & drinks for the adults & of course there was always the visits through the barn and yard with a lot of funny stories for all. Walter's pasture was always open for us to pick "smargee",(morels) in the spring & a visit later. We will always have great memories of you & Kate. Rest in Peace - Posted by: Bernice & Roy Okaluk (Family Friend) on: Jun 17, 2013

I rode on his school bus and that was always an adventure, he was always so funny and we were even taught the Ukrainian language on the bus. You will be missed by everyone, rest in peace Walter. - Posted by: jeff stelko (freind) on: Jun 16, 2013

  • The world has lost a great man, friend and father. My earliest memory of "Uncle" Walter is walking to the farm across the road at my grandparents place to visit. There was a huge man with an equally huge voice. He scared me half to death. I think I was about 5 or 6. Walter has always been in our lives, whether visiting my grandparents or in later years my parents. He was always ready to help anyone. Rest in Peace, Uncle Walter. You will be missed. - Posted by: Charlene (family friend) on: Jun 13, 2013

  • Walter was a man with a huge heart. He was the best bus driver and educator anyone could have asked for. He drove our children to school for most of their school years. Things were always exciting on the bus, if cows were calving in the field close to the road, the bus would be stopped and Walter would make sure all the kids got the whole farm experience. A man with a heart of gold. You will be missed. I bet it was one heck of a welcoming party. Rest in peace Papa Walter. - Posted by: Arleen (Friend) on: Jun 13, 2013
