HECTOR BAHUAUD Peacefully, on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, Hector passed away at the age of 80 years. Hector leaves to cherish his memory his children Nicole (Adam), Daniel (Michelle), and his grandchildren Josiah (Nadine), Gabrielle and Tristan. He was predeceased by his wife, Cécile. Hector was born November 30, 1932, to Ferdinand and Bernadette Bahuaud in St. Lupicin, MB. He married Cécile in 1957 and raised his family in Ste. Agathe and Winnipeg. A dedicated teacher, Hector taught elementary school in Winnipeg. Hector was proud of his French heritage, and travelled several times to France, researching family history. Throughout his life, Hector was sustained by his Catholic faith. He channelled his outgoing nature and his leadership skills in many church organizations, most notably the Knights of Columbus. Prayers will be on Sunday, June 16, at 7:00 p.m. at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons St. Mass of the Resurrection, preceded by a eulogy at 10:15 a.m., will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 17 at Saints-Martyrs-Canadiens Roman Catholic Church, 229 Dussault Ave., with Father Isaie Blanchette presiding. A private family interment of his cremated remains will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. Prayers will be held on Sunday, June 16 at 7:00 p.m. at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons Street. Funeral mass will take place on Monday, June 17, at Saints-Martyrs-Canadiens Parish, 289 Dussault Avenue, with a eulogy at 10:15 a.m. followed by the mass at 10:30 a.m. Complete obituary notice to follow in Saturday's edition. "Mr. Bahuaud" as we called him in Grade 6 at Robert Smith Elementary School in River Heights, Winnipeg, in 1957-8, was a greatly liked teacher. Personally he made a huge impact on my life (and that of several siblings who followed me),as I had just moved to Winnipeg from a very small Manitoba town. I was very shy and academically behind by city standards. Through his encouragment and kindness both in academics and sports, I began to thrive. Special teachers such as Mr. Bahuaud, as most will agree, are very rare. Hector and my Dad always enjoyed trading insults (in a light humorous way). When my Dad died the duty fell on me to continue the tradition, though in a more milder way. My deepest sympathies to Nicole, Dan and family. I had the pleasure of sitting at Hector's table for breakfast for my first year at Cathedrale Manor. I will miss his sense of humor and his jolly good mornings.
