MYRTLE ADA CARTER 1928 - 2013 Myrtle Ada Carter passed away peacefully at Stonewall Hospital June 13, 2013 at the age of 84. Myrtle, daughter of Richard and Caroline Cline, was born September 18, 1928 in Young, Saskatchewan. One of 12 children, she grew up on a farm in Zelma, Saskatchewan. After finishing school she worked as a nurse's aid at Fort San in Fort Qu'Appelle. It was there she first met John Carter when he caught her walking on his fish nets laid out to dry on the beach. They were married October 18, 1949 at Zelma and started a family, with three boys born in the Fort Qu'Appelle area. In spring of 1954 they moved to Manitoba, settling finally at Woodlands in 1957. Here they established a mixed farm and raised a large family of 11 children. Mom was still living on the family farm where she enjoyed gardening and feeding the birds. She was always ready for a new adventure or place to explore. She liked the challenge of a game of cards or scrabble. Family and friends were always welcome and "grandma's cookies" were appreciated by all ages. She was loved for her gentle manner and infectious smile and we will all miss her. Myrtle was predeceased by her husband John, her youngest son George, and sons-in-law Lloyd and Darren. She is survived by children Bob (Claudette), Bill (Jackie), Jim (Shirley), Joan (Bert), Marjorie (Anthony), Norma (Ken), David (Della), Bruce, and Dan (Janet); grandchildren Les, Ryan, Brent, Jill, Brennen, Reagan, Chelsea, Sheldon, Aaron, Kari, Sara, Derek, Robin, Monty, Cortney, Michael, Dylan, Darren, Joel, Lerissa, Devin, Jeremy, Megan, Zane, Max, Jilayna; great-grandchildren Nicoles, Bethany, Aiden, Lawren, Cassie, Chase, Logan, Kade, Austynne, Kirianne, Kassidy, Cayden, Bricksen, Calla, Jamie, Samantha, Kristen, Dominic, Jude, Alora, Rowyn, Carter, Ty, Reed, and Parker. As per her wishes Myrtle will be cremated and a family memorial service held. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made to a charity of your choice. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • She was a grandmother and great-grandmother. She had the best smile warm and inviting personality. I wish I had had more time to learn from her and know her. Maybe one day I'll meet John Carter (Grandpa) and Myrtle Carter (Cline) again. - Posted by: Sheldon Carter (Grandson) on: Jul 19, 2013

  • Some years ago, my husband and I ran a restaurant in Teulon (Roadside Rose Cafe) In those years we met many wonderful people and accumulated many wonderful memories. One of those memories was of Mr. and Mrs. Carter. It was a pleasure to get to know them even in a small way. My husband also recalls Mr. Carter the bus driver and of course the memories associated with farm living and sharing and helping your neighbours and friends. I always thought Mrs. Carter had "happy wrinkles" the kind of lines that come from a life of love, laughter and happiness. We are sorry to hear of your loss and hope you will always cherish the time you had. God Bless - Posted by: Scott & Lara Thomson (Aquaintance) on: Jun 16, 2013
