JOSEPH NECHWEDIUK Joseph Nechwediuk of Sandy Lake, MB passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at the age of 92. Joseph was born on January 12, 1921 in the R.M. of Harrison, Manitoba. He grew up on the family farm a few miles north of Sandy Lake, MB. There he helped his father at a very early age. Joseph went to school in Sandy Lake. As he grew older he left home to work in Winnipeg. Shortly after that he worked at saw mills located by Pine Falls, White Water Lake and Lake Audy sawing wood. He went to Agriculture school in Neepawa for six months. Eventually he cleared the homestead land to farm. In addition Joseph worked as a mechanic for Tony Kheller in Sandy Lake until he started his own business (Joes' Auto Service). On June 21, 1955 Joseph married Alieda M. Vander Kooy and together they raised one daughter. Joseph was predeceased by his father Jacob Nechwediuk, mother Helen Nechwediuk, sister Lena (Lynn) Spencer, and brothers John Nechwediuk and Peter Nechwediuk. He is survived by his daughter Pauliena and husband Gordon Mclaughlin and his two grandchildren, Josephiena of Sandy Lake and Melanie of Winnipeg. He is also survived by his sisters Anne and husband William Karlicki of Winnipeg, Marilyn and husband Walter Smelski of Calgary, AB, sister-in-law Joyce Nechwediuk of Birds Hill, MB, and by numerous nieces and nephews. A service will be held at the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, Sandy Lake, Monday, June 17, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Rae's Funeral Home, Shoal Lake in care of arrangements.
