PAULINE TKACH Peacefully, on May 26, 2013 Pauline passed away at the age of 101. Pauline is survived by her daughters, June (Gary) and Sylvia (Jack), grandchildren Keith (Marla), Susan (Michael), Jacquie (Daniel), Amber (Paulo), Gordon (Jennifer) and great-grandchildren Garett, Brendan, Cameron, Corrina, Mitchell, Robbie, Noah, Vivian, Brady, Brooke, Hope, Tia, Shyan, Daralyn and Draven, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband Frank in 1974. She had two sisters and three brothers who have all predeceased her. Pauline was born in Poplar Field, MB and at the age of 16 she moved to Winnipeg. Then, at age 20, she got a job at Winnipeg Beach as a cook and later was promoted to head cook at Concilla's restaurant. She met Frank at Winnipeg Beach and later they got married. They were given the Jefferson Tourist/Trailer Park by Frank's parents as a wedding present. Pauline and Frank lived in Winnipeg Beach running the Jefferson Tourist/Trailer Park until 1942 when they moved to Winnipeg when Frank got a job with TCA (Air Canada). They started a cotton candy business making cotton candy at the Shrine Circus and on the boardwalk at Winnipeg Beach. In the 1950s they opened the Moonlight Inn opposite the Winnipeg Beach dance hall. It became a popular café noted for her delicious home-made pies. Later in the 1960s, when the boardwalk closed, they moved on to Main Street in Winnipeg Beach and ran a small snack shop and cotton candy stand. Pauline always welcomed all her daughter's friends and helped Frank build a recreation room so they would have a place to entertain their friends. Pauline and Frank traveled to Europe, Florida, Arizona, Mexico, New York, Toronto, Ohio and Vancouver where her daughter Sylvia was living. After Frank's passing, she spent many winters in Hawaii until she was well into her 80s. A celebration of her life took place on May 30 with a small gathering held with close family and friends at the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Selkirk, MB and she was laid to rest next to her husband at the Winnipeg Beach Cemetery. Pauline had a long, happy and productive life and she will be missed by all of us.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Sylvia..my condolences on the passing of your mom. She lived a long life from what I read. I remember your mom from the cotton candy booth. She, on occasion said that she loved working the booth, but didn't like all the sugary hair at the end of the day. She was a great lady. I don't know if you remember me from that long ago. I remember your friend Shirley Cowalker too. I often had wondered what had happened in your lives over the years.I see you and your sister have children and grandchildren also.
