HANS LAURENCE AMMETER Suddenly, yet peacefully, on Sunday, June 16, 2013 in the Medical Intensive Care Unit at Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, MB, with members of his family present, Laurence Ammeter left us to be with his Saviour and Lord. Born on St. Valentine's Day in 1945, in Winnipeg, MB, Laurence and his parents, Ernest and Margaret, and brother, Arthur, lived for some years in Starbuck, MB, where they had a small farm. In 1953, the family relocated to Petersfield, MB where they set up a family dairy farm. After completing his schooling at Selkirk Collegiate in Selkirk, MB, Laurence worked with his parents on the dairy farm, eventually taking over the operation and phasing it over to beef production. A quiet, thrifty man, fond of reading and a good listener, especially to 60's classic rock music, Laurence was a skilled welder and metal fabricator, who did many repairs on broken machinery, both his own and that of neighbours who needed help. Often purchasing used machinery at auctions, he modified it to better suit his own needs. Laurence valued his friends, of whom he had many. A longtime member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, in Mapleton, MB, Laurence was active in congregational life until illness made this impossible. Having no children of his own, Laurence took great delight in his nieces, Carly and Rebecca, and later on his nephews-in-law, Glen and Mark, as well as his grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Laurence leaves to mourn Arthur and Debbie Ammeter; Carly and Glen Nowell, Sylvia and James, of Oakville, MB; and Rebecca and Mark Corrigan, Keziah, Nizanna, and Biruk, of Saskatoon, SK. A celebration of Laurence's life will be held on Friday, July 12, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Mapleton, MB, with Pastor Erik Parker officiating. Interment will follow in the Selkirk Lutheran Cemetery. Should friends so wish, donations may be made to a charity of choice. We will miss him.
