Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWALTER ANIBAL VILLA 1953 - 2013 It is with heavy hearts and tears in our eyes that we share the sad news of the passing of Walter Villa on June 13, 2013, at the Health Sciences Centre, surrounded by his family. Walter was born in Majes, Arequipa, Peru on July 28, 1953. He was the eldest of six children. From an early age, he had to assume the responsibilities of a father to his brothers and sisters with lots of love and dedication. Part of this responsibility included starting to work at the young age of 13 to help his mother support the family, thereby missing the chance to get a full education. In the early 1970s, he had to begin considering taking the family out of Peru due to its unstable political and economic state. By 1975, he succeeded in leaving Peru for Canada as a temporary landed immigrant in Montreal, Quebec where he faced many challenges including finding work, a new culture and language, and missing his family. He sacrificed himself and his own needs, working long hours and days, to support himself, his family back home and save enough for his sister to leave Peru and help him with his ultimate goal of bringing all of the family to Canada. After five long years of sacrifice, Walter and his sister Clile, succeeded in reuniting the family in Canada in 1980. After many years of hard work, with the family safe and settled, Walter was finally able to start a family of his own. He and his wife, Eduviges, relocated to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1983 and was faced with yet more challenges while creating what is now a successful, incorporated cleaning company. In 1984, he was overjoyed at the birth of a son, Jonathan, and in 1985 a daughter, Nadia, whom he both cherished and adored. In 2000, Walter was married to Sonia Martinez who was his constant companion to the very end. Those whose lives were touched by Walter knew he had a big heart and was sympathetic and willing to lend a hand to those who needed it. Whenever he could, Walter provided support and assistance to friends and family in Peru and Chile who also dreamed of a better life for themselves and their families in a wonderful country like Canada. Some of the things Walter enjoyed most were spending quiet time at their country home in Elphinstone, Manitoba where he felt rejuvenated by the peaceful surroundings especially so in the past four years while fighting his illness. He also cherished spending time with his now large extended family which included great barbeques at home and by the beach (always with a "chela" in his hands!). Another great joy of his was travelling back to his home country, and Chile, to visit friends and family, enjoy the wonderful Peruvian food of his childhood and reminisce over the past. In May 2009, our world was shattered when Walter was diagnosed with Stage 4 brain cancer and given six months to live. Walter fought a tremendous fight and beat the odds by living with his cancer for four years. In 2011, the birth of Walter's first grandchild, Maya, brought renewed strength in his constant battle. He adored and cherished every minute he spent with her and considered her the best medicine of all! Walter will be forever remembered and loved by his mother, Isabel; grandchildren, Maya and Sebastian; brothers Elder and Alex; sisters Clile, Isabel, Lourdes; children Jonathan and Nadia; his wife Sonia; nephews and nieces, Jose, Carlos, Kevin, Cindy, Elder Jr., Mirella, Alex, Daniel, Carolina, Rebecca, Nicolas and Pavel; great-niece Isabella, and in-laws, Victor and Melanie. Special words from Walter's mother to Walter: Adios hijito lindo. Te fuistes primero pero mañana te seguire y un dia nos encontraremos. De donde estes, cuida a toda tu familia como siempre lo hicistes y llevalos por un buen camino. Viewing will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with Prayers on Friday, June 21, 2013 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue, west of Red River College. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 22 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, with interment at Brookside Cemetery.

In memoriam - Posted by: Jesus & Flor (friends) on: Jul 15, 2013

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Sonia and family. I wish I knew Walter more as the two years that I knew him was a joy. He was a very nice and soft spoken man who always had nice things to say about every one and everything. He never felt sorry for himself and always managed to go on with life. I know he is now is peace and is up in heaven knowing no more pain and we always watch over Sonia and his family. May God bless you all and know if you ever want to talk or just need someone to listen please call. Take Care now and always. - Posted by: Alice and Jamie Braun (Friend) on: Jun 19, 2013
