ELSIE BORSA Peacefully on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at the Selkirk Red River Place Personal Care Home, our dear Mom and Granny passed away. She is survived by her son Randy (Linda); grandsons Troy (Alison) and Scott (Kari). Elsie was predeceased by her husband Nick in 1984, parents Louie and Clara Ratz, and her siblings Bill, Walter, Ann, Charlie, and Harry. Elsie was born March 30, 1928 in Hilbre, MB. She grew up on the family farm. In 1950 she married Nick Borsa, where together they built a home in Gypsumville. Mom was active in the community, and a member of the Women's Institute, serving as the secretary for many years. Mom was a hard working lady. She worked along with her husband and son on the grain farm they purchased east of Gypsumville. After Dad passed away, she was able to run the garden tiller, snow blower, and lawn mower to look after her yard. Mom enjoyed playing cards, bingo, and puzzles. She was fondly referred to by her grandsons as Card Playing Granny . In later years she took up playing golf with her friends at the St. Martin Golf Course and enjoyed the sport very much. She even got to play a few rounds with her grandsons when they first started. Mom liked to travel. Mom and Dad went on many trips throughout Canada and into the USA. She continued after Dad passed away and made several trips with her niece Emily and her friend Margaret. In 2001, after being diagnosed with COPD, Mom moved into Glen Cora Estates in Ashern. Here she enjoyed the friendship of her caregivers, Nancy and Linda. She also looked forward to going out for lunch on Sundays with her neighbour, Francis. The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and caregivers at Ashern General Hospital, Selkirk General Hospital and Red River Place Personal Care Home for the care they provided for our Mom over the past six months. Also a special thanks to Mom's dear friend Muriel and niece Emily for your visits, friendship and kindness to Mom. In accordance with Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, 3 Main St. in Ashern at 11:00 a.m. She will be interred beside her beloved Nick in a private ceremony at a later date. If so desired, donations in memory of Elsie may be made to a charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
