ELIO PETRICIG Peacefully on Sunday morning, June 23, 2013 Elio Petricig passed away. Now his spirit joins his beloved wife Angelina (1997), son Marcello (2011), and daughter Maria (2011). Left to cherish his memory, daughter Elsa (Ron), sons, Franco (Sylvia), Marco and Natalino, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Elio was born in 1923 in Stermizza, Udine, Italy. At a young age he grew up fast into a young man who had to take care of the family farm homestead, with many responsibilities when his father left him in charge, while his father went to Africa. We remember stories Dad would tell us of how he had to tend to everything, the vineyard, the livestock, and the chores around the house. Our Dad also proudly served in the Italian Army as an Alpini Soldier in the Second World War. To this day, Dad is still a proud Italian Citizen. In 1961, Dad immigrated to Canada with his wife Angelina and five children. We remember him telling us the most important thing he had with him was his family and God by his side. Dad was a hard-working man. He was very strict as a father, but that's only because he cared for us. He was a man with boundless energy. He loved the outdoors, he loved to garden, he loved to go hunting and fishing, he loved to cook, he loved making homemade sausages, he loved making wine, he loved playing the accordion, he loved sharing stories, especially when the family was all around the table eating and drinking, he loved a good glass of wine, he loved laughter, he loved his canaries, who, by the way, were all named Chico, above all, he loved his family the most. At the age of 85, Dad made a special accomplishment. He went back to visit his hometown in Italy, by himself. Dad set a wonderful example to us all to have Courage and Faith. He showed strength right to the end. Dad, you were sick and tired. We all knew God would soon come and take you. You fought so hard, for so very long, but through the pain, you stayed strong. We all knew there would come a day when God would come and carry you away. It doesn't make it easier to say Good-bye and we try so hard not to cry. "Fly with the Angels Walk with God Be at Peace We love you Tata" A private Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church with Father Sam Argenziano officiating. The family would like to thank the Riverview Health Care staff, Palliative Unit 3E for their compassionate care of Dad. Donations in Elio's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
