LYDIA FOSS Surrounded by the love and presence of family, Lydia Foss (nee Schoeps) passed away very peacefully on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at the age of 90. Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband of 59 years, Waldemar; daughter Ruth (Julian); son Harold (Wanda); grandchildren Luke (Eve), Kirsten, Matthew, and Jared; brother Walter Schoeps of Germany, and extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Johann and Amalia, and her brother Willi. Born in Poland in 1923, Lydia grew up on a farm with her parents and two younger brothers whom she helped care for after the passing of her mother when she was nine. She moved to Winnipeg in 1953 to join Waldemar in marriage, create a home, and raise their family. She took great joy in loving, caring, and cooking for her children and grandchildren. Lydia spent many happy summers in her garden, and visiting with family and friends at the cottage in Petersfield. Lydia and Waldemar traveled extensively. Winter trips to Mexico were particularly cherished when she was joined by her children and grandchildren. She was a faithful member of St. John's Lutheran Church for over 50 years. Lydia lived a long and happy life. Oma's loving, caring nature and quiet presence will be deeply missed by her family who will always look back with gratitude on the many years they were able to spend with her. The family thanks the staff at the Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg who helped care for Lydia. There will be a memorial service in celebration of Lydia's life on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111
