EGON STIEM Peacefully, on June 26, 2013 after a brief illness, at the age of 84, Egon lost his battle to cancer. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife Margaret of 60 years and three children Ronald (Barb), Barbara (Robert), and Patricia (Roman). He also leaves to mourn his grandchildren, Jason (Susie), Cassandra, Gregory (Brenlee), Steven (Miki), Rachael and Nicole along with his five great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by his family in Germany and the USA and his many friends here in Canada. Egon was born in Hamburg, Germany on September 19, 1928 and immigrated to Canada in 1956 with his wife and two children. Egon relied on his acquired training from Germany as a machinist to support his family, which led him to Manitoba Hydro from where he retired in 1989. Egon and Margaret enjoyed their retirement taking trips back to Germany, sunning in Mexico, USA and enjoying their cottage at Beresford Lake. Egon enjoyed the company of many and always made friends with whomever he met. He was a dedicated husband, father and friend and any time anyone needed a hand he was always there. He enjoyed music and was a DJ for many of his friends' socials, parties and the German Society of Winnipeg. If there was a song to be heard and sung Egon had it. He enjoyed fishing and was always looking for that big one that got away, jumping beaver dams to find them but settling on a stringer of fish for sharing with his family and friends. Egon was always tinkering around and his knowledge gave him the gift to give a helping hand to others to assist and guide them in their projects. The family would like to express its heartfelt thanks to the Palliative staff at SOGH for their support and kind words. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Egon's life will take place on July 3, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Highway .In lieu of flowers donations in Egon's memory may be made to the Cancer Care Foundation Manitoba. Dad, Opa the family came to say good-bye, to shed a tear and ask why. We hope you heard us all that day from our hearts the words came. We asked that you have no more pain just our memories of past days. You said you lived a good life with no regrets and hearing that we will be all right.
