Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I have many fond memories of Uncle Warren. Uncle Warren & Aunt Betty lived next door to our family in Stony Mountain for many years as we were growing up. They always made us (my sisters Tracy, Erin & I) feel that we could come & stay with them anytime, and we did, often. We spent as much time in their home as we did in our own, knowing that they were always there for us. For as far back as I can remember Uncle Warren & Aunt Betty were always working in their garden, so I just have something that I want to share with you that makes me think of Uncle Warren. It is from a book that I have called "Gardens of Delight". A garden may be a re-creation on earth of the mythical garden from which man came or an anticipation of an ideal other-world to which he may ultimately pass. The gardener looks back to Paradise, or looks forward to Heaven. Both states are ideal, and, despite the vagaries of the weather and the indiscipline of weeds, all gardens aim at the ideal. As Marvel wrote: Here at the Fountains sliding foot Or at some Fruit-trees mossy root, Casting the Bodies Vest aside My Soul into the boughs does glide: There like a Bird it sits, and sings, Then whets, and combs its silver Wings; And, till prepared for longer flight, Waves in its Plumes the various Light. Auntie Betty & Family Uncle Warren will be missed but will always be in our thoughts. Love Val, Steve & Chris - Posted by: Val Maple (niece) on: Jul 21, 2013
