Born: Jul 29, 1924
Date of Passing: Jun 27, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGUERITE LAWRENE NORDAL (nee STAPLES) Marguerite passed away peacefully on June 27 at the Victoria Hospital. Marguerite was born July 29, 1924. She was predeceased by her husband, Elmer Nordal, her parents Elma and Lawrence Staples and her brother John (Audrey). She is survived by her five children Valerie (Cordell) Barker, Ron (Barb), Greg (Christine), Daphne Nordal (Don Budinsky) and Janice (Scott) Anderson. Also left to mourn her are her grandchildren Jason (Stephanie), Michael (Lorelei), Kristy (Kris), Alaina (John), Ashlee (Patrick), Leanne (Aaron), Alex, Nick, Charla, Alison and Ryan, great-grandchildren Kyle, Zaden and Kaida, and several nieces and nephews. Marguerite grew up on a farm near Treherne, Manitoba, and later moved to a house in town with her family. Marguerite had so many wonderful memories of her time in and around Treherne. Her father served as Treherne's postmaster, and she herself was acting postmistress for a period of time during the Second World War. Marguerite was very proud of the Staples and Sanderson (maternal) family histories and their contribution to their communities. Marguerite and Elmer met at a country dance and they married in 1949. Together they raised five children in St. Boniface. Marguerite was proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their accomplishments. Marguerite obtained her Home Economics degree at the University of Manitoba and while raising her family attended summer classes to complete her teaching degree. She taught Home Economics at Nelson McIntyre Collegiate for fifteen years and she maintained many friendships forged during those years. Mom and dad's lives were enriched by so many friends from the Norwood community. Dad retired from the police force after 38 years, most of those serving in St. Boniface. They were long-standing members and very involved in Norwood United Church where Elmer's bass voice and Marguerite's alto could be heard during services and concerts for decades. Mom and dad also sang in the philharmonic choir for many years. Once retired, in addition to some exciting trips, mom and dad enjoyed their winters in Mesa, Arizona, where they golfed and met many wonderful people. After dad passed away, mom travelled extensively with friends, including several cruises to exotic locales. Once her travelling days were over, she enjoyed exchanging emails and calls with friends around the world. In retirement, Marguerite kept busy with bridge, painting, writing short stories and poems. After years of living in Southdale with many wonderful neighbours, she moved to the Seine River Retirement Residence, where she made many good friends. Marguerite often spoke of how lucky she was to have had a good life and family to assist her in her later years. Of course we were the lucky ones raised with love, support and encouragement. We all cherished our time with Mom who remained sharp of mind and able to tell a great story right until the end. Mom appreciated how everyone she met enriched her life, and Mom made each of us richer for having her in our lives. Thank you to everyone at Seine River Retirement Residence, the staff at Victoria Hospital and all those who sent their support and best wishes. To live in the hearts of others is to live forever. We will love you always. A private family service will be held. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715

Marguerite and I lived in the same park in Mesa and have been friends for many, many years. We emailed weekly and occasionally even telephoned. She was a dear sweet person and a friend I'll always remember. I've been worried because my emails have been returned recently so looked for her name in the Winnipeg obituaries and hoped I wouldn't find it there. She was so proud of her family and I feel I got to know them through her. My sincere sympathy to your family. Marguerite was my supervising teacher when I was a student teacher at Nelson McIntyre Collegiate. A few years later I had the pleasure of working with her in the Home Economics department. Marguerite was always kind and generous to me. I remember her with fondness. I offer my sincere condolences to all of her family. - Posted by: Linda Dart (Former Colleague) on: Jul 14, 2013

I met Marguerite at Seine River R.R. and enjoyed our visits. She was a very friendly, chatty and interesting lady and she will be missed by many. I am sure she is again singing duets with Elmer and is at peace. So sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Nancy Arason () on: Jul 04, 2013

I am so sorry for your loss! Your mom was a friend of mom and dad's in Norwood and of course, at the Seine! I always admired your mom and her tremendous positive attitude when I visited at the Seine. She was such a sweetheart! She always seemed to have so much energy. She was very proud of her children and told me how lucky she was to have children/grandchildren who took such good care of her! She loved you all so much! My thoughts are with you at this difficult time! Kelly Crawford - Posted by: Kelly Crawford (Margaret and Harold Crawford's daughter from Norwood) on: Jul 02, 2013

The woman was determined to make a cook out of me. She persevered and I have moved on past hamburger casserole, we thank you for your patience. She continued to be a family friend through the choir with my mother. A talented woman not soon forgotten. Our condolences to your families. - Posted by: Myra Castelein (Former student) on: Jul 01, 2013

Mrs. Nordal was my Home Ec teacher at nelson Mac, and she was the best. She explained to me why I would break out in bumps all over my body (food allergies), and she helped me nail down many of my allergies, some of which are very severe. Mrs. Nordal, you were and always will be the absolute best. May your family find comfort in knowing that you comforted so many others, and may you rest in peace. - Posted by: Sherry Korolyk (former student) on: Jun 29, 2013
