I've known Hertha and her family since we arrived in Canada fall 1947. At the time, we lived with the Cornelious Derksen family on their farm next to a major watercourse (Rat River?) vicinity Ste. Elizabeth. We went to the same church and I still recall the wonderful singing ...and the summer picnics. Within a year of arriving, we lived on a farm belonging to the Frank Hildebrands in the Arnaud area and it was the Penner family that bought us a brand new kitchen stove (wood burning) as we were starting out there. In later years, I seem to recall meeting Hertha when she was visiting her brother Peter (wife Irma) in New Brunswick. The year I lived up north, she showed up in Whitehorse YT and cooked up some salmon I'd brought back from fishing in Alaska. She was a very caring person and appreciated her many friends. - Posted by: Waldemar Friesen (Distant Cousin) on: Jul 05, 2013
