ROBERT KENNETH COOK Peacefully, with his family by his side, Ken Cook passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2013 at the Concordia Hospital at the age of 85. Ken will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Eleanor and sons Rodney (Sheila), Donald (Ardith), Kevin (Sandra), Garth (Tricia) and daughters Karen Eastwood (Greg) and Heather Chapman. Also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren Erin, Evan; Steven, Philip, Elyse; Kate, Kevin, Kyle; Avery and Emerson. He is also survived by his sisters Anne (Dell) Percy; Margaret (Dennis) Hadaller and brother Ronald (Elizabeth) Cook and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers Jack and Ferg. Ken was born in 1928 in Gravelbourg, SK and with his family journeyed to Manitoba and settled in South Plympton in 1935. His early years were spent working the family farm and in 1952, Ken married Eleanor Gillespie and together raised their six children in the community of Dugald. Ken was an entrepreneur all of his life starting in the gravel business, then the trucking business, farming and road construction. His brother Jack was a integral part of all Ken's business ventures. Ken's last project was as the co-developer of the North Plympton Village Condominiums where he lived until his passing. Ken and Eleanor were fortunate to have travelled to many destinations over the years including Russia, Europe and Hawaii. They also enjoyed time spent wintering in Phoenix. Ken supported the Winnipeg Jets from the beginning of their time in the WHA as a season ticket holder. Travel to Russia with the Jets was one of his most memorable trips. Ken enjoyed time spent at the family cabin at Red Rock Lake in the Whiteshell. He especially enjoyed watching the kids waterskiing while driving the boat. He oversaw construction of the new cottage in the last years and was most proud of the gatherings that took place there. A Memorial Service celebrating Ken's life will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 10:00 a.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery, Hwy #1E at Navin Road. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ken's memory to the Dugald Projects Committee or CancerCare Manitoba Rest in peace Ken.
