She is survived by her six children and spouses, seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter: Nancy (Robert) Shannon, Judy Shannon, Surrey, BC; Jane (Don) Libich, Daniel Libich, Libau, MB; Christopher (Debbie) Zolondek, St. Andrews, MB, Richard (Danielle) Zolondek, Winnipeg, MB, great-granddaughter Sarah Kohinski; Jared (Caroline) Zolondek, Winnipeg, MB; Louise (Lawrence) Bruce, Kristin Bruce, Lac du Bonnet, MB, Jacqueline (Ray) Manaigre, Lorette, MB, Derek (Emily Koroscil) Kuczek, Winnipeg, MB; Patrick (Toni) Zolondek, St. Andrews, MB; David Zolondek (Lyudmila), Winnipeg, MB. She is also survived by her two sisters, Frances (Jack) Baird, Markham, ON, Violet Cherney, Winnipeg, MB, brother Peter Edwards, BC, brother-in-law Ted Berezowski, Ontario, brother-in-law Frank Martens, Winnipeg, MB. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her husband Frank Zolondek on March 28, 1974, parents Steve and Katie (Nazarewich) Zalusky, sister Helen Berezowski, sister Jane Martens, brother John Zalusky, brother Walter Zalusky and sister-in-law Mary Zalusky, and brother-in-law William Chernetsky. Mom was born in Libau, MB where she grew up and attended school. In her younger years she belonged to the Libau 4-H sewing club. Her first job was at a sewing factory in Winnipeg, MB. She met Frank and was married on July 12, 1946. They settled on a farm just outside Garson, MB where they raised their six children. Mom loved her flower and vegetable gardens. After Frank passed away, she moved to Toronto, ON to be near her two sisters, Helen and Frances. She went back to school there and completed her Grade 12 adult education. She worked at many different jobs while in Ontario. She worked from sewing factories to working at the Canadian National Exhibition. She also took a horticultural course while in Toronto. Mom eventually returned to Manitoba where she retired in Selkirk. She loved to go for walks and was an active member of the Gordon Howard's Senior Centre in Selkirk for many years. She could be found tending the flower garden in front of her apartment block. When it was cold or rainy she would sit and listen to country and western and gospel music while she knit many blankets and did numerous picture puzzles. She was quite the lady and could be found talking to anyone, either telling stories or just chatting up a storm. When she was at the nursing home she liked to get her nails and hair done weekly. She said it made her feel younger. The family would like to thank the staff at Red River Place, Selkirk, MB for making mom's last few years comfortable. As per her wishes mom has been cremated and a private burial will take place at Sunnyside Cemetery. There will be a memorial service on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, MB. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6, phone 204-949-2000 or 1-888-473-4636, www.heartandstroke.mb.ca Mom may be gone, but she will never be forgotten. Dear cousins: I am saddened to read of the passing of your mother. It has been so many years since I have had any contact with you. I do remember your mom marrying my uncle Frank and living across the street from our grandparents but at first they lived with the grandparents and it could not have been easy for your mother not having her own place. Also, Grandma spoke very little English and I am not sure how much Polish your mom spoke. I remember Nancy and Jane at school in Garson and waiting at the Wozny store each morning before heading to the school. As to the younger ones I must say that I am drawing a blank for memories except for the names. Your mother sounded like a very interested and interesting woman. My condolences on your loss. If you wish to contact me -- dahanson@sympatico.ca I have lived in Montreal since l967. It would be nice to hear from you. Nadia Yaremmko Hanson - Posted by: stella zolondek (aunt) on: Jul 09, 2013
