MARIA JOSE (AVO) FURTADO It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, family member and friend, Maria Jose Furtado. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones at Oakview place on Thursday, July 4, 2013 at the age of 92. Maria was known for the enormous amount of love and affection she showed towards others. Her generosity, charming wit and endless humour will be remembered by all those who crossed her path. She was the focal point of her family and household, always encouraging one another to stick together, cherish one another and love deeply. Although she never left the house much, that didn't stop her from entertaining and feeding those who came to visit, whether they were family, neighbourhood children or her amigo's. On the occasion when she did go out, you could expect her to make friends with anyone and everyone. It didn't matter who you were, or if you didn't speak Portuguese, she always had a compliment to give or a joke to crack. Smiling, laughing and being playful was her true nature. Maria is predeceased by her husband Leopoldo and her son Carlos. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter Fatima and son-in-law François, her son's companion Nelia, her grandchildren, Morgane, Eloise, François (Fanch), Tess, Kristina and great- grandchildren, Gael, Katelyn, Gabriel and Clarisse. On behalf of Maria and her family, we would like to extend our warm appreciation to all of the staff and residents at Oakview Place for the kindness, compassion and loving care they gave to their 'tough cookie' mama Maria. A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave, Winnipeg, MB, R3K 1W3.
