ERNEST MICHAEL FUTROS SR.
Date of Passing: Jul 04, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryERNEST MICHAEL FUTROS SR. 1940 - 2013 It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our daddy, brother, grandpa, uncle and friend Ernest (Ernie) Futros Sr., affectionately known as "Big Ernie", on July 4, 2013 at St. Boniface Hospital. Ernie was survived by his loving wife of 52 years Mary, children Joey (Theresa), Ernie Jr. (Krista), Eddy (Diane), and Angela (Mike), nine grandchildren, nine siblings and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his youngest son Randy, father Michael, mother Katie and brother Joey. Ernie was born in Winnipeg, MB on April 2, 1940. He grew up in St. Francis Xavier, MB. On July 8, 1961 Ernie married the love of his life, Mary. Together, they had four boys and one girl. Their life together took them from St. Francis Xavier, to St. Laurent, MB. In 1981 Ernie and Mary last moved with the children to Rosser, MB. As a young lad, Ernie drilled alongside his grandfather and father. Later he started his own manufacturing and drilling firm Perimeter Drilling. His manufactured drilling rigs have been purchased by companies as far away as Ecuador. Because of Ernie's vast drilling expertise, he was able to travel the world to instruct future drillers. With many years of drilling water wells in his home Province of Manitoba with his family by his side, Ernie proudly leaves a legacy of five Futros generations of drillers to carry on as Perimeter Drilling. There was nothing more important to Ernie than spending time with his family. He enjoyed Ukrainian music, fishing, hunting, and a nice glass of red wine with a good Cuban cigar provided by his loving brother and best friend Mikie. He also loved flowers; his favourite being the orchid as they lasted forever. Ernie lived his life to the fullest, and did it his way. As Big Ernie would say "Have a drink on me. Dai Boze". The family would like to give our heartfelt thanks to the doctors and staff on Ward 6E at St. Boniface Hospital for the dedication and care of our dad. A very special thank-you to Dr. Maria and Thomas. It is because of your kind-heartedness, Ernie's journey was a peaceful one. Prayers will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery). A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 2400 Portage Avenue. The eulogy will be read at 10:15 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that donations be made in Ernie's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
