ELIZABETH THERESA TAYLOR Peacefully passed away on July 3, 2013 at Riverview Health Centre. To cherish her memory, Elizabeth leaves Dr. Hugh Taylor, her devoted husband of 52 years; son Hugh Ross (Susan), and grandchildren Victoria, Hugh Christopher, and Gordon of Winnipeg; daughter Claire Osborne (Nat), and grandchildren Lauren and Ryan of Carmel, Indiana. Elizabeth was born August 6, 1934 in Middlesbrough, England. She entered the profession of Nursing and practiced at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. While there, she met Hugh Taylor, returning with him to Winnipeg in 1960. Following their marriage in 1961, they spent the next two years in New York City. Upon their return to Winnipeg, Elizabeth changed careers to that of homemaker and full time mom to Hugh Ross and Claire. By the mid 1960s, she began to develop rheumatoid arthritis, a condition she would fearlessly manage for nearly five decades. Although profoundly affected by RA, she would not allow her situation to interfere with her role as wife and mother, or with her enjoyment of the beautiful things in life. She took great pleasure in simple things - a flower, a poem, a beautiful song, tea time or petting a dog. She remained very proud of her British heritage throughout her life, and was thrilled to be able to visit England in 1983. Thereafter, she had her British fix through many trips to Victoria, BC. In her later years, Elizabeth remained an extremely keen observer and maintained sharp intellect despite her mounting physical limitations. No detail could escape her powers of observation, and she always kept close tabs on the world around her. In particular, she kept an active interest and concern over her family's activities. Special thanks are extended to all of the many care workers, allied health, nurses and doctors who so ably cared for mom over the years, in particular to Dr. Fred Aoki. A memorial service and celebration of Elizabeth's life will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery). In lieu of other tributes, memorials may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3, the Arthritis Society, 105-386 Broadway Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3C 3R6 or a charity of your choice.
