Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOSEPH KLYM July 6, 1931 - July 12, 2013 It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our husband, father and grandfather, Joe Klym, on July 12, 2013. His death will leave a giant void in the lives of his wife, Olga, and his daughters Arlene (Reg Perry), Joanne, and Colleen (Rick Joyal), along with his grandchildren Jesse Perry, Alicia Perry and Bridget Joyal. He will also be missed by his brothers Mike (Marie), David (Elaine), brother-in-law Andy Melnyk, sisters-in-law Sophie Firman and Rose Kit. There are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, colleagues and neighbours who will also mourn his loss. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Jasmine Joyal, his parents John and Mary, his brother Victor and sister-in-law Dora, his parents-in-law Mike and Anne Melnyk, brothers and sisters-in-law Mary and Steve Natyna, Anne Melnyk, Walter Firman, John and Jean Melnyk, Jean and Norman Baldock, John Kit, and Walter and Joyce Melnyk. Joe was born on the family farm in Bjarmi. He and Olga Melnyk were married in 1953 and together they purchased a farm a mile away from his parents' homestead. He continued to farm with his father and his brother, Victor. His wife and daughters were also an integral part of the farming operations. Their home was a centerpiece for family get-togethers, whether it was for potato planting or family reunions. There were few weekends where the house wasn't filled with family and friends. Joe served on the Board of the Arborg Credit Union for several years prior to his decision to work there. In 1973 he applied for the job as the loan's officer. He was awarded that position, and then a few years later was promoted to manager. In 1991 when the Credit Union opened a branch in Fisher Branch, he went there as the manager and remained with them until 1993, at which time he retired. During this time he continued to work on the farm, as his loyalties to it never waned. Joe was very community minded and as such served on several boards over the years including the Credit Union Board, ARDA and FRED Boards, Curling Club executive, and the Vidir School Board. He supported his daughters' and grandchildren's activities and wasn't shy to share how proud he was of all of us. In 2011 the Klym homestead reached the Century mark and Dad was so happy to initiate a Klym family reunion to mark the occasion. He was a kind, appreciative and hospitable man to the very end. We would like to thank Dr Siddiqui and especially the staff at the Arborg Hospital for the compassionate care that he received over the past three months. Viewing and Prayers will be held at the Arborg (Mackenzie) Funeral Home, Wednesday, July 17 at 7:00 p.m. Memorial service will be held at the Arborg Community Hall, Thursday, July 18 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bjarmi Cemetery Fund (c/o Mark Klym, Box 4068, Arborg, MB R0C 0A0), or to the Arborg & District Health Centre Ladies Auxiliary, Box 301, Arborg, MB R0C 0A0 Rest in Peace. I will remember Joe when interest rates were 22 percent and I sat across from him in the Arborg Credit union. He said my mortgage payments were not covering the interest, but he gave me a little smile and at the point, I realized I had someone I could trust. Rest in peace Joe. - Posted by: Barry Fridfinnson (friend) on: Jul 16, 2013

Dear Arlene and the Klym family, I was reading the Free Press obituaries and was so sorry to hear of the loss of your dad. I met him once, the weekend I spent at your house in Arborg during the winter carnival, when you were crowned Queen, Arlene. It is difficult to lose a parent, but you will have many fond memories to fill your heart and your mind. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. - Posted by: Shirley McLaren (Friend of Arlene) on: Jul 16, 2013
