CYRILLA WILMA DENT (BRIGGS)
Date of Passing: Jul 13, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCYRILLA WILMA DENT (BRIGGS) Peacefully in her sleep, Cyrilla Dent passed away in the morning of July 13, 2013. Predeceased by her husband Robert (1971), sisters Edith (1917) and Olive Hill (2013), she will be deeply missed by her son Wayne and wife Pat, granddaughters Aynsley Kuntz (Scott) and Jaime Sawchuk (Greg), grandson Calvin (Toni), and great-grandsons Tyson, Spencer, Easton, Keegan, and Rocco. Mom was born in Russell, Manitoba in 1920 to Cyril Briggs and Bessie Gillies, moving to Winnipeg as a young child, attending Kelvin High, working at Eatons, and at a dance before the war, met the love of her life, Robert. They married in 1946, and when Wayne finally appeared, she became the stay-at-home mom. Later on she returned to work part time at Sears and eventually retired from Sears Optical. Mom loved to spend summer vacations camping with her family, with her favourite place up at Wasagaming in Clear Lake. She was active in the Ladies Auxiliary at the Valour Road Legion, taught Sunday School at Silver Heights United, and volunteered at the community club. She loved socializing with the old "Army" bunch, and the neighbours on Vavasour. After Dad's passing, mom travelled with friends to the Caribbean, San Diego, and spent a number of winter months at the "Chateau" in Victoria. She cherished and adored spending time with her grandkids Aynsley, Jaime, and Calvin, having them for sleepovers and taking them shopping to the mall. Set back a bit when she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, she never let it bother her, and was often seen buzzing around the malls and streets on her scooter. Then came the Sunday "dinners on Grandma" and the scooting down the halls of the apartment. This was even more enjoyable when the great-grandkids came along. GG was loved by all. The family would like to thank the staff on 2N (Cathy, Brenda, Connie, Rose-Marie, and Cora) at the West Park Manor Personal Care home for their assistance and thoughtful care during mom's stay. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, or to a charity of choice. In keeping with her wishes, a private graveside service will be held. I have such great memories of growing up on Vavasour where the neighbors felt more like family. Your Mom and Dad would take me along on your camping trips and always made me feel right at home. My "other mother" (as I called Cy) never forgot my birthday and when she worked at the candy counter in Sears would pick out all the purple candies for me. She will be forever in my heart and truly missed. - Posted by: Audrey Scott (nee Bailie) (Friend) on: Jul 22, 2013

Dear Wayne and family... you won't remember me but I do remember your Mom (and your Dad). It was wonderful growing up across the street from you all on Vavasour. I was just a kid when your Dad died. Your Mom was always so cheerful and welcoming. She made all of us kids on the street feel well. Now, every time I see your house, I remember those good times. Praise be God for your Mom's life. - Posted by: Dirk Lange (Neighbor) on: Jul 19, 2013
