OREST DENNIS SOKOLIUK It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, son (in-law), brother (in-law) and uncle, Orest Dennis Sokoliuk on July 14, 2013 at St. Boniface Palliative Care, at the age of 59. Orest will be lovingly remembered by his loving and devoted wife Audrey, of 32 years. Also left to cherish his memory are his mother, Anne Sokoliuk, mother and father-in-law, Nick and Nettie Boychuk, brothers Ben, George (Carol), Emil (Jackie), foster brother Lawrence Dorie (Cathy), brothers-in-law Wayne Boychuk (Lynn), Ed Persowich, sisters-in-law Connie Boychuk, Bonnie Gushuliak (Wesley) and Sonia Kraynyk (Brian), numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many other family and friends. Orest was predeceased by his father, John Sokoliuk, brother Paul and sisters-in-law, Wendy Persowich, Mary Sokoliuk and Clover Sokoliuk. Orest was born on October 2, 1953. He attended school in Sundown and Vita and later met the love of his life, Audrey. They were married on May 30, 1981 and made their home together in Winnipeg. Orest had numerous positions with different employers with his latest tenure as Technical Assistant with City of Winnipeg Forestry Department. Orest's vast knowledge of Dutch Elm Disease contributed to his strengths in training summer students and fellow co-workers. A few of Orest's passions were fishing, playing cards, especially crib or five hundred, being a sports enthusiast, with the Montreal Canadiens and Winnipeg Jets, teaching his nieces and nephews the sport of ice fishing, hunting, and he loved keeping in touch with all his friends, near and far. Orest will be sadly missed but an angel has risen and will look after all of us, smiling down from the heavens and encouraging us through difficult times, especially Audrey. Prayer services will be held on Friday, July 19 at 7:00 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Drive, Steinbach, MB. The funeral service will follow at St. Elias Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Sirko, MB on Saturday, July 20, at 10:00 a.m., with interment to follow at the parish cemetery.
