  • I first met Steve in 1988 when we began our Naval Electronics Training on the same course in Halifax and our paths continued to cross many times over the ensuing years - Steve was a very well-respected Sailor - highly professional, but also quick with a joke and a laugh and I can honestly say that he's one of the few people I've met who never had an ill word to say about another. Taken far too soon - RIP. - Posted by: John Arksey (Shipmate) on: Jul 20, 2013

  • A family man first and foremost, Steve had a wonderful way with people and he brought with him a gentle sense of humour and timing that always made one smile. Ever tactful, a friend to everyone in the A2 shop and a trusted confidante to many others, Steve was a calming presence. Whenever I was discouraged, Steve could always be counted on to pick me up. Sometimes it was just a nod and expression that conveyed empathy and understanding or a word of encouragement and humour that was just right. He was one of the few people I missed since leaving the military. Deeply saddened to learn of Steve's passing and with a heavy heart, our condolences and prayers go out to Gayle and Family. Steve, may you enjoy fair winds and following seas in the heavenly fleet. - Posted by: Tim and Elizabeth Petrash (Friend and former co-worker) on: Jul 19, 2013

The chorus goes, "I wanna be the one When all is said and done Who lived a good life, loved a good wife, and always helped someone in trouble On the day they lay me down I want everyone to gather ‘round And say he was a father, brother, neighbour and a friend He was a good man!"
