Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGUERITE HELEN HOGG On July 14, 2013, Marguerite Helen (Peggy) Hogg, dearly beloved wife of the late Major William Hogg CD, passed away peacefully in the arms of her daughter Susan at the Calvary Place Personal Care Home in Winnipeg. Marguerite was predeceased by her parents Frederick and Elizabeth Bagguley, her siblings Katherine, Gwendoline, Kenneth and Howard, her nephew David, and the light of her life, her husband Bill. She is survived by her loving daughter Susan (Bob Jackson), her granddaughters Alyssa and Sarah whom she adored, her son Peter of whom she was very proud, and her two nephews Doug Bagguley and Don Officer. Marguerite was born in Ottawa on April 18, 1923. Her early years were filled with music and sports. She was not only an avid tennis player and downhill skier but an accomplished pianist. Upon graduation from Lisgar High School in Ottawa, Marguerite worked for the Government of Canada (Finance) and quickly rose to the position of Personnel Supervisor. In 1951, she married her childhood sweetheart, Bill Hogg, a union that was characterized by deep love and mutual respect. As a military wife, Marguerite felt she was fortunate to have the opportunity to experience Canada with their postings to Kingston, Churchill, Whitehorse, Montreal and, finally, Winnipeg. With the birth of her children in Kingston and Churchill, Marguerite became a full-time homemaker, a role in which she flourished. She took great pride in her home and was an avid gardener. Marguerite was a marvelous hostess and ensured that everyone felt welcome in her home. A proud and supportive Mum, she was always there for her children. She also found time to do volunteer work at her children's school and her church. Marguerite and Bill enjoyed many overseas trips together to the United Kingdom and Hawaii until Bill fell ill to ALS. She showed her true inner strength and compassion when she lovingly cared for her husband, at home, until he passed away in 1992. Her granddaughters Alyssa and Sarah were the joy of her life, giving her renewed life and energy. She loved spending time with them whether for a tea party, story time or playing dolls. In return, her granddaughters thought of her as the "best Nanny ever". In 2005, due to declining health, Marguerite left her home on Hammond Road and started a new phase of her life at Calvary Place Personal Care Home. This was a difficult transition for her, but the compassionate care of the Calvary Place staff helped her to adapt to her new environment. Marguerite, or "Maggie" as she was known, was treated with kindness, respect and love throughout her stay at Calvary Place. We will be forever grateful to her Calvary Place family, as well as her companion Beberly and friends Denzil and Lee. Rest in peace, my dear sweet Mum. We will always cherish the love and support you gave us throughout our lives. A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 22, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Marguerite's name to the ALS Society of Manitoba, 493 Madison Street, Winnipeg, MB, the Winnipeg Pet Rescue Centre, 3062 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB or to a charity of their choice.
